NADA Acupuncturist, Somatic Trauma-Informed Coach & Therapist, Akashic Records Guide, Bioresonance Scans & Detox Protocols I am a crazy South African living in bonny Scotland with my hubby, two beautiful children, our foster Frenchie, and two guineas, Roro and Middy. I love people, ideas, playing and babies, (and chocolate cake.) Before my deeply transformational awakening in 2017, I was a journalist and owner of a community newspaper, running large-scale events alongside it. Since the awakening, I have been studying and practising Reiki, healing, and coaching and in 2019, I received my Acudetox Practitioner certificate, which is a game-changer for people suffering from anxiety, addiction, trauma and sleep disorders. We immigrated to the Netherlands in 2019 and again, 6 months later (during Covid-19) to beautiful Scotland. I worked, then abruptly didn't...
So I was thrown back into the world of self-employment and published my book, Break Those Damn Rules, an intimate journey of self-discovery and overcoming addiction. My scared little inner child, became triggered again and I anxiously worked myself into a frenzy, trying to find my anchor, my compass to guide me back home to self, but instead, I lost myself in the process and became everything to everyone, in the hopes of being accepted and validated. After experiencing burnout, twice, I became a certified Happiness Facilitator in 2022 and slowly started unhooking my own limiting self-beliefs. In October 2023 I took the final leap of faith and left the business world, to come back to helping individuals on their journey of self-discovery and self-love. I recently completed my Trauma-Informed and Hypnosis Training, which are fantastic tools to help my clients heal. I am intuitive in my healing and coaching sessions and will use a variety of tools to help my clients get unstuck and live the life they dream of. (I do work with the support of Spirit, so don't be surprised if one or two pop in for a session, wanting to work with you.) I love working with people who want to heal and increase their sense of joy, and have an affinity with young people who could do with some guidance, love and confidence. Not only do I use the tools that I have studied, but I also draw from my lived experiences which stem from childhood trauma, suicide, depression, addiction and a sense of displacement from immigration. I have intimate knowledge of dealing with people who are Neurodiverse and understand your superpowers. How I like to work, is start our session off with a Quantum Body Scan Analyser. You see, the secret is, our emotions, trauma and addiction is simply stuck energy, that has not been released. Yes, outside influences, such as the things we eat, drink, see, hear, feel, do and inhale will have impact our body, mind and spirit, but nothing compares to the emotions. The way we respond to the world around us, is what shows up in our organs. That is why I love working with the Quantum scan, so I can find out where you store your anger, frustration, fear, sadness and so on and then through the many tools at our disposal, together, we can help you to rid yourself of these toxins. So if you are ready and willing to make the changes, I am here to support you on your journey to belong and learn to love yourself completely.

šŸ”„ REBEL of the Week: Tammy Clarke šŸ”„

Tammy describes herself as an old soul, a dreamer, healer, adventurer, and believer in love and romance. She’s driven by curiosity, drawn to the unbeaten path, and guided by truth and authenticity.
A good sense of humour, she says, has carried her far in life, and you can feel that warmth the moment you meet her.

A strong theme for Tammy right now is alignment.
It’s been showing up everywhere, a reminder to stay aligned with friends, family, community, and passions. ā€œIf it doesn’t align, let it go,ā€ she says.

When she reflects on her journey, one word stands out: resilience.

No matter the circumstances, Tammy has always found a way to rise, learn the lesson, reinvent herself, and return stronger. She speaks honestly about the many dark nights of the soul she’s faced, moments where giving up felt tempting, and she’s deeply proud of choosing not to. Even when the odds were stacked high, she stayed. She continued.

Tammy found Pathfinder by chance, or perhaps it was alignment again...
Walking past one day with a friend, the board outside caught her attention, especially the acupuncture. A month later, while heading for a walk at North Inch, she felt led to step inside. She met Lynn… and, as she puts it, ā€œthe rest is history.ā€

Being part of the space has felt like coming home.

A place that’s welcoming, authentic, cosy, and deeply aligned. A feeling she’d missed for a long time, being safe, accepted, and connected with like-hearted people.

ā€œIt feels so good for body, mind and soul.ā€

When life feels heavy, Tammy returns to her first loves: music and dancing. Music transports her through time and space. Dancing brings her back to joy, free, playful and childlike, a reminder that it’s okay to pause the ā€œadultingā€ and enjoy being alive.

What lights her up most is time with family. Long, lekker chats with her mum and sister, tea in hand, and a non-negotiable chocolate-chip cookie. Living abroad has taught her that the best things in life are free, presence, love and connection. Even across video calls, she carries that warmth with her always.

And a little Tammy magic to finish, she loves listening to music on vinyl. The crackle of the needle, the ritual of choosing the LP, placing it gently on the player, and letting the melody fill the room. Now this sounds like nostalgia and being intentional.

Tammy, your depth, warmth, resilience, and alignment are a gift. We see you. We celebrate you. And we’re so glad you followed that nudge through the door. We can't wait to collaborate with you going forward šŸ’šāœØ.

I’ve been thinking a lot about dopamine lately.
It’s one of those words that gets thrown around so casually now.

ā€œDopamine hits.ā€
ā€œDopamine fasting.ā€
ā€œChasing dopamine.ā€

But underneath the buzzword is something very real, very human, and very relevant to how so many of us are feeling right now.
Dopamine is often called the ā€œfeel-goodā€ chemical, but that’s not quite right. Dopamine isn’t really about pleasure. It’s about anticipation. Motivation. Drive. It’s the chemical that says, ā€œThat looks promising. Go get it.ā€
It’s what gets us out of bed in the morning. What helps us plan, focus, pursue goals. What gives us a sense of reward when effort meets outcome.

In a balanced system, dopamine rises when we work towards something meaningful, and then settles again. There’s effort. There’s reward. There’s rest. A natural rhythm.
The body is very good at this when we let it be.

Naturally, we get dopamine from things like:
Moving our bodies
Completing something we care about
Meaningful connection
Learning, curiosity, creativity
Sunlight, good sleep, nourishment
Feeling safe enough to relax after effort

These sources are slower, steadier, and often quieter. They require presence. Participation. Sometimes patience.
But here’s where things have shifted.

Modern life offers dopamine in much faster, louder, more artificial ways.
Alcohol.
Drugs.
Sugar.
Scrolling.
Notifications.
Online shopping.
P**n.
Binge-watching.
Endless novelty.
These things don’t ask much of us. No effort. No waiting. No relationship. Just instant reward.
And the brain loves efficiency.

The problem isn’t dopamine itself. Dopamine is essential. The problem is how often and how intensely we’re stimulating it.
When the system is constantly flooded with quick hits, the baseline shifts. What once felt satisfying no longer does. Everyday life can start to feel dull, heavy, even pointless by comparison.
Motivation drops.
Focus fades.
Joy feels harder to access.
We feel restless, flat, or bored, even when life is objectively ā€œfineā€.

And then, because humans are very good at self-blame, we tell ourselves we’re lazy, unmotivated, undisciplined, addicted, broken.
But very often, it’s not a character flaw. It’s a chemistry imbalance shaped by our environment.
Long-term, this pattern can have real consequences. Not just on mood, but on mental health, addiction, anxiety, depression, and our ability to tolerate discomfort. If the nervous system gets used to constant stimulation, stillness can feel unbearable. Silence can feel threatening. Slowness can feel like something is wrong.
This is why so many people struggle in January.

The noise drops.
The distractions reduce.
And suddenly there’s nothing buffering the system anymore.
It’s also why simply ā€œstoppingā€ a habit can feel so hard. When artificial dopamine sources disappear, the body becomes uncomfortable to live in.
This is where we come in.

We don’t shame people for how they cope. We’re far more interested in why the coping showed up in the first place, and what the body needs now.
Our work is about helping the system reset gently. Supporting the nervous system so it can tolerate lower, steadier dopamine again. Rebuilding motivation from the inside out. Helping people find satisfaction in things that actually sustain them long-term.

Through trauma-informed support, acupuncture, movement, grounding, and human connection, we help the body remember how to regulate itself. How to rest. How to feel reward without punishment or excess.
No extremes. No deprivation. No ā€œyou shouldā€.
Just support, education, and care that meets you where you are.

If any of this resonates, if you’ve been feeling flat, restless, unmotivated, or stuck in cycles you don’t quite understand, you’re not alone. And you don’t have to figure it out by yourself.
We’re here.

And we’re very good at walking this path with you.

We are back at the Happiness Headquarters from today!
Come say hello, we have missed you.

January has a way of exposing things we’ve been holding together all year, don't you think?

Not because we’ve failed, but I think the cold, dark days and nights creep into one's soul and remind you of times gone by. Nostalgia.

For many people, Dry - or Blue January can be hard because the coping strategies that kept everything just about manageable are suddenly gone. And when that happens, the body does what it knows best to do - become animalistic, hungry, demanding.

What often gets labelled as ā€œlack of willpowerā€ is actually a nervous system that has been running on survival for a very long time.

If stopping drinking, slowing down, or trying to reset your goals leaves you feeling anxious, low, restless, tearful, or unable to sleep, that can feel frightening. It’s easy to jump to conclusions.
ā€œWhat’s wrong with me?ā€
ā€œWhy is everyone else fine?ā€
ā€œWhy can’t I just do this properly?ā€

Here’s the scary part that rarely gets said kindly enough:
Ignoring those signals doesn’t make them go away, damn...
It does, however, push them deeper into the body, where they show up later as burnout, illness, relapse, or complete shutdown.

And that is why January can become dangerous when we force ourselves through it without support. Your body has been working incredibly hard to keep you functioning. When you take away its usual props, it needs something else instead. Not punishment. Not pressure. Support. Regulation. Care.

That’s why a holistic approach matters. Mind alone is not enough. Body alone is not enough. Spirit alone is not enough. We are whole humans, and January asks for whole-human support.

If this month feels heavier than expected, that doesn’t mean stop.
It means slow down and listen.

We have a swiss army knife kinda toolkit. Something for everyone, and definetely not one size fits all.

If you are looking for some serious support to help you transform your anxiety into confidence and sadness into courage, then reach out. One of our kind, trained and trauma-informed staff members will be on hand to lean on and guid you through the right program for you.

šŸ”„ REBEL of the Week: Derek šŸ”„

Before Derek came to Pathfinder, he had almost no self-belief and very little sense of self-worth. He’d never really learned how to see himself in a positive light, and for a long time, that shaped how he moved through the world.

One of the biggest shifts he’s noticed since starting the programme is how he responds emotionally.
ā€œI’m not as quick to anger like I used to be,ā€ he says. ā€œI realise now it was a defence mechanism, I didn’t know what else to do.ā€

Instead of reacting, Derek has learned to pause. He’s more aware of the positive things he does, both for others and for himself. Confidence is something he’s always struggled with, but for the first time, he can feel it building, slowly, honestly, and in his own time.

The Pathfinder team played a huge role in that shift.
ā€œThey are warm, welcoming, patient and understanding,ā€ Derek says. ā€œThe difference it makes when someone tells you ā€˜that emotion you’re experiencing is valid and you’re allowed to feel it’ is mind-blowing, especially as men, when we’re taught emotions are bad.ā€
Learning that emotions aren’t something to fear or suppress has been a turning point.

He’s also had powerful moments of realisation about himself.
ā€œThat feeling is okay, and it’s actually a good thing. I’ve learned that some of the self-soothing things I’ve done for years, like tapping or humming, are real tools. And seeing colours around people? Turns out that’s normal too, not padded-room crazy like I once thought!ā€

Perhaps the most profound change has been how Derek sees his future.
Once, he felt hopeless. Meeting his wife showed him there was hope, but through Pathfinder, he’s learned something even more important: how to rescue himself emotionally.
ā€œI no longer feel like the lost, scared little boy I was for over 30 years. I’ve learned to be my own protector, physically and mentally, and I’ll never be scared like that again.ā€

Outside the work, Derek is proudly a child at heart. He loves cars, his old Xbox, and working on a car project with his daughter, with plans to teach her how to do ā€œdumb things in carsā€ā€¦ safely, of course (that part’s for his wife šŸ˜„).

Derek, your honesty, growth, and courage are powerful. Watching you step into your own strength, not through anger, but through understanding, is what being a REBEL is really about. We’re proud of you. šŸ’šāœØ
