ness is an ancient practise with its roots in Buddhism and eastern philosophy and has been around for thousands of years. In more recent years from around the 1990’s mindfulness has made its way into more mainstream psychology and healthcare. You don’t have to be religious or hold any beliefs in psychology to practice being mindful, mindfulness is a way of experiencing life and the world in which you live and how you relate to yourself and the world around you in a kind, curious, non judgemental stance. By using modern day approaches of mindfulness such as mindfulness based stress reduction (MBSR) we are practising awareness in the present moment to body sensations, feelings and thoughts, this allows us a space to experience whatever is here and brings us back to our senses. Mindfulness emphasises to the individual the thinking and feeling patterns that accompany depression, anxiety, physical pain, anger, eating disorders and mental and physical conditions.
