πŸš΄β€β™‚οΈ Blasting Through the Trails: A Changing Landscape, Just Like Work! πŸŒ…

As the season changes, I find myself racing down the trails on my gravel bike, no matter the weather! It’s incredible to see how much has transformed in just a few months, with new developments reshaping the landscape I once knew.

This evolution prompts me to reflect on our work environment. Much like the trails, the business world is constantly in flux. A few years ago, stability and predictability were the norms, but today, we navigate a landscape filled with new technologies, updated processes, and shifting customer demands. Just as I adapt my routes on the bike, we must remain agile and proactive in our professional lives, moving forward confidently through the changes.

The thrill of the ride stays the sameβ€”whether on the bike or in our careers! πŸš€πŸ’Ό

πŸš΄β€β™‚οΈ Conquering the Challenge: 700-Mile Cycle Ride For Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice Sue Ryder! πŸš΄β€β™‚οΈ

On Monday Night, John and I completed our epic 700-mile cycle ride in June for Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice, smashing our target in just 24 days! John even managed to squeeze in a refreshing dip in a cold pool before we powered through to the finish. πŸŠβ€β™‚οΈ

Our journey in June has seen us cycling through hail, rain, and high winds, finally rewarded by scorching sunshine. β˜€οΈ We've cycled through picturesque villages in five counties (Cambridgeshire, Essex, Northamptonshire, Huntingdonshire, and Lincolnshire), navigating disused railway lines, muddy trails, farmers fields, and forests brimming with stinging nettles. 🌧️🌳 John impressively completed two-thirds of an 18-mile ride despite a strained thigh muscle! Plus, he managed to smash 1 hour off his 50-mile ride time. ⏱️

As parents, Clare Montgomery Robinson and I couldn't be prouder. John faced a roller coaster of challenges, especially during the last few scorching days, learning to listen to his body, adapt to conditions, and master the art of recovery and refocus. Last night’s ride, rerouted to embrace a cool breeze, showcased his resilience and determination, remarkable for an 11-year-old. πŸ’ͺ

Here are our stats:
Total Distance: 713.16 miles (356.58 miles each) πŸš΅β€β™‚οΈ
Duration: 24 days πŸ—“οΈ
Number of Rides: 18 πŸš΄β€β™‚οΈ
Elevation Gain: 8,029 ft ⛰️
Total Moving Time: 30 hours & 55 minutes πŸ•’

Anything more this month is a bonus – who knows, we might even reach 750 miles! For now, we're over the moon with our accomplishment. πŸŽ‰

What's Next for John?
After a couple of recovery days, he'll be back out on his bike, slowly building up his endurance to help him complete a 100-mile challenge during the school holidays. πŸš΄β€β™‚οΈ

He’s also joining me at the hashtag , where we’ll tackle a grueling 64-mile loop from Writtle on Sunday, 1st September 2024.

πŸš΄β€β™‚οΈ Ride 13 - 700 Miles for Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice: Celebrating Milestones Ride!

During this ride, John and I achieved a personal goal each.

I reached the significant milestone of 2,000 miles for the year.
Adding to the excitement, John achieved his first nonstop ΒΌ century ride, clocking in at under 2 hours! His excitement was through the roof as he dashed into the house to share the news with Mum Clare Montgomery Robinson.

This ride wasn't just about adding miles; it was about pushing boundaries, celebrating personal victories, and supporting an incredible cause.

Just over 52 miles in the bag collectively this evening, means we've a little over 128 miles to complete between us.

Keep following our journey as we continue to pedal towards new goals and support Sue Ryder. Every mile counts, and together, we're making a difference! 🌟

πŸš΄β€β™€οΈ Fish & Chips and Fun: Fenland clarion youth cycling club Evening Ride Adventure! 🌟🍟

Last night, the Robinsons joined members of the Fenland clarion youth cycling club and their parents for a leisurely ride from Peterborough Athletics Track to Vivienne Fish and Chips in Orton Wistow. A total of 16 riders set off on this enjoyable journey.

The route took us back through town along the River Nene, down toward Thorpe Meadows and the Peterborough Boating Lake, meeting up with another 3 riders at Orton Mere. From there, we headed down toward Ferry Meadows, then up toward Orton Wistow, arriving at the chip shop. Once our appetites had been sufficiently satisfied, we headed back on the South Side of the River Nene, following the Nene Valley Railway toward town. We said our goodbyes and left the group not far from Railworld. πŸŒˆπŸš΄β€β™‚οΈβœ¨

Ride 11: Weathering the Storm! 🌧️πŸŒͺ️
25 miles on and off-road, along some tricky trails in pretty diabolical weather conditions. Out to Coates in the Fens via Whittlesey and Eastrea. Needless to say, the bikes needed a quick wash down.

Ride 12: Father's Day Tribute - Half Century Challenge! πŸš΄β€β™‚οΈπŸŽ‰
In memory of my Dad, we set ourselves a goal of completing a half-century ride out and back to Spalding. In winds gusting over 30 mph, we stopped along the way to take on fluids and the odd energy gel. We reached Spalding in just under 1 Β½ hours. The return leg was slightly slower due to cycling into headwinds and visiting my mother and father-in-law for a cup of tea and a slice of cake. Okay, so the family demolished at least half the cake... It was yummy!

Bearing in mind this is John's second 50-mile ride, his fitness has really come on since last year, smashing his previous time over the same distance by an hour.

09/2/2023 - 4:50:45, 50.02 miles.
6/16/2024 - 3:49:42, 50.47 miles.

Collectively since Friday, we’ve amassed an amazing 170.46 miles, bringing our total to 519 miles. Our target is within touching distanceβ€”only 181 more miles to go (90.5 each)! πŸš΄β€β™€οΈπŸš΄β€β™‚οΈ Rumor has it the weather is about to change for the better… Fingers crossed! 🌞

10th June. Ride 8: Monday Evening Adventure with Lillie πŸŒ™

We were thrilled to have Lillie join us on πŸš΄β€β™€οΈ She’s been eager to test out her road bike and clipless pedals on a longer ride. Once she regained her confidence clipping in and out, we embarked on a scenic journey up the busway through the Ortons. 🌳 After navigating a few busy roads and tricky turns through gates, we headed up through the new industrial estate near Great Haddon. We turned back just before Norman Cross, making our way home after an impressive 13 Β½ miles! πŸŽ‰ Fantastic achievement, Lillie!

10th June. Ride 9: Exploring Eastrea πŸŒ„

Yesterday evening's took us into The Fens along the River Nene and beyond Whittlesey to a small village called Eastrea. 🌾 After completing just over 9 miles, we turned for home. Most of the ride was off-road or along pathways, with the road miles primarily through Whittlesey. πŸš΄β€β™‚οΈ

We are excited to announce that we've collectively completed just shy of 350 miles so far! 🌟 We're taking a well-deserved rest tonight, gearing up for the Fenland clarion youth cycling club Chip Shop ride, which will see us completing a 9-mile circuit with other club members. πŸŸπŸš΄β€β™‚οΈ

Ride Number 6: Braintree, Essex Adventure

Our latest adventure took John and me down to Braintree in Essex. Unfortunately, our journey was delayed by an hour due to a nasty accident on the M11, which meant we spent more time in traffic than we’d have liked.

Once we arrived, we set off on our ride along the Flitch Way to Great Dunmow. Despite getting lost in a forest, the detour turned out to be a great deal of fun, with John enjoying every moment of it. The fast-rolling tracks and beautiful scenery added to the thrill of the ride. We took a much-needed break at The Booking Hall Cafe in Rayne, where we recharged with a drink before continuing our journey.

Returning to Braintree Train Station, we decided to do a circuit of Braintree, exploring some of the trails I used to frequent during my younger years. Along the way, we stopped for a selfie at the Sue Ryder Care, a meaningful moment for our challenge. Some of the highlights included seeing Straits Mill and doing a quick circuit of the old quarry at the back of the Fairview Estate.

Mileage Update:

Today's ride covered 50.88 miles, bringing our collective total to 236.78 miles. We're steadily creeping towards our 700-mile goal!

πŸš΄β€β™‚οΈ Update on Our 700-Mile Challenge for Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice πŸš΄β€β™€οΈ
Yesterday's ride, number 4, had to be split into two parts as Lillie felt unwell during the ride. Bless her, Lillie is now resting at home for a couple of days. After picking up our youngest daughter, Penny, from Brownies, we continued the ride to stay on track with our target.

Tonight's ride, number 5, took us through the trails and paths around Nene Park, heading out as far as Caster. John and I really enjoy these rides, jumping over exposed tree roots and dodging stinging nettles 🌳. There was one minor mishap out the back of Caster when John's pedal hit the side of a tractor tire rut, sending him sideways off the bike 🚴. However, he recovered quickly, dusted himself off, and jumped back on the bike soon after.

So far, we have covered a combined total of 185.9 miles πŸ›€οΈ. We're making great progress, and your support means the world to us. If you'd like to contribute to our cause, please visit our JustGiving page https://www.justgiving.com/page/pe2crazycrew-700c. Thank you for your generosity! πŸ™

Update on our June 700-mile challenge for Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice!

Ride number 3, involving all 5 of the PE2 Crazy Crew. Dodging the rain showers, poping up to Asda to get the kids a treat for cycling in cold wet conditions. Followed by a nice warm cup of tea at home.

Another 23.3miles added to the tally, 129.3miles in total.

πŸš΄β€β™‚οΈ Update on our June 700-mile challenge for Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice!

Ride number 2, same route as yesterday but with a twist! John switched bikes, waiting for a new stem and cycling shoes before hitting the roads with my old road bike.

I got up early to swapped the original FSA stem for a shorter one and adjusted the saddle to fix the overstretch. Thanks to calmer, warmer weather, we shaved 7 minutes off yesterday's time!

A combined total of 106 miles for us both over the weekend means John can take a couple of rest days this week without impacting our goal. With school starting tomorrow and his legs feeling tired, he'll probably take advantage of that.

Well done, John! πŸ‘
