Residents at our Lapwing Apartments extra care community have continued celebrating Christmas in style at their party. There was wonderful music from Somethin' Else, who got staff and residents up and bopping away!

Huge thanks to the Elior UK team in the restaurant for the incredible festive feast, and to the staff who volunteered their free time to make the party a wonderful event.

Debbie has been crowned good neighbour of the year for 2025. Debbie runs fun activities, making sure that everyone can participate regardless of ability. She brings together residents to make new friends. Debbie is also a keen gardener and tidies up her neighbours’ patio areas and hedges. An honourable mention goes to Toby, her lovely dog, who enjoys the afternoon tea club where he has his own special mug.

This week, we're celebrating some fantastic winners and runners up from our Extra Care and Retirement communities in the annual CKH Resident Awards.

Veronica and Caroline are neighbours who have both had a tough year, dealing with grief and health problems. However, it has not stopped either of them from keeping the social calendar full. From hosting birthday parties to becoming the new Chairman of the Social Club, these ladies are at the centre of making their scheme welcoming and inclusive.

School children from Werrington Primary School - Peterborough bought seasonal joy to residents at our Loxley retirement housing community this week. The youngsters sang carols and told jokes to entertain residents at their coffee morning.

Intergeneration activities like these are a key part of our older people services, helping to bridge the gap between the generations. Both groups get so much enjoyment from it - especially at this most magical time of the year.

At the start of this year, two residents at our Lapwing Apartments extra care community, Debbie and Janet, set up an Arts and Crafts Group. Throughout the year they have been meeting to craft and create beautiful things. They have had themed their crafting around the time of year and put up displays for Easter, a fantastic poppy display for Remembrance Day and lots more in between.

Their last session of the year was Christmas themed. They also enjoyed an arty Christmas party, which they all contributed to. A wonderful festive time was had by all!

As well as being a time for celebrations, Christmas can bring with it a long list of jobs that take a lot of time and energy. As we get older, sometimes it is harder to take part in the festivities.

There are lots of ways to help older people make the most of the festive season:
• Go shopping together
• Offer to help with decorations
• Support with online shopping
• Get and about to look at decorations
• Find festive events to attend
• Make time for a catch up.

If you don’t live near your loved ones, talk to us about how our fantastic Care team can help instead. Learn more about the ways we can help at www.ckhcare.co.uk

Residents of our Kingfisher Court extra care community recently handed over a cheques for £300 to the Royal British Legion. It was all money they raised at their Remembrance Coffee Morning and thanks to their fantastic poppy display.

Pictured from left to right - Sarah Harbour (granddaughter of resident Neville Harbour and the late Margaret Harbour), Sheila Johnson (Kingfisher Court resident), Sandy Foster (Royal British Legion), Sheron Cope (Kingfisher Receptionist), and Katie Johnson (granddaughter of resident Neville Harbour and the late Margaret Harbour).

Sarah, Sheila, Sheron and Katie were the main organisers and co-ordinators of the fabulous poppy display that adorned reception and attracted the attention of many visitors.
