Yaxley GP Welcome to Yaxley GP, part of Lakeside Healthcare. Welcome to Yaxley GP, part of Lakeside Healthcare! About Lakeside Healthcare!

Our close-knit team of GPs, nurses, allied health professionals, administrative and reception staff, are dedicated to providing the best possible healthcare services for our community. Our team works collaboratively to provide healthcare services at Lakeside Healthcare at Yaxley. We are fortunate to have a close-knit team of GPs, nurses, allied health professionals, administrative and reception st

aff, who are all dedicated to providing the best possible service for our community. Patients are at the heart of what we do and we couldn’t do it without our extensive team. We are lucky to have so many experienced and long serving colleagues, plus newer staff who are committed to a career in Primary Care. We have an experienced management team who deal with the daily running of our practices and our patient service advisors are there to help whether you have a medical concern or administrative query. They are very busy so if your enquiry can wait until after 11am each day then that would be appreciated and should save you time either waiting on the telephone or in our reception areas. We engage regularly with patients through our Patient Participation Group, taking their views into account where possible when making changes and listening to their views, issues and ideas. We also have productive working relationships with the Integrated Care Board and Care Quality Commission and make improvements as and where we can. As well as our daily work in surgeries we also work in the local community, making home visits, providing healthcare for residents in local care homes and offer advice and support on lifestyle and non-clinical issues with our Personalised Care Team of care coordinators and social prescribers. We are busier than ever so thank you for your understanding while we continue recruit, train and develop our team and working practices to see as many patients as we can safely. Yaxley GP is a part of Lakeside Healthcare, a large GP partnership that provides NHS care for around 170,000 patients across Lincolnshire, Cambridgeshire, Peterborough and Northamptonshire. We are made up of eight GP practices across 14 sites that are all part of their local communities. We work together as practices to provide resilience, sharing learning and professional back-office support services. Our most important asset is our people, who provide care for our patients and help run our surgeries smoothly. We employ over 500 clinical and non-clinical staff and we invest in training and developing to ensure that we retain and attract good quality staff who want to stay with us and be part of our team. We also host a clinical research team who run high quality clinical trials and studies to support the development of new medications and preventative treatment for long-term conditions. We are proud of what we do and strive to demonstrate our values of Caring, Respect, Quality and Teamwork in everything we do. For further information please visit our website.

At our surgery, we’ve been working hard to identify individuals with caring responsibilities and connect them with meaningful services that offer the support they deserve.

Here's a helpful link to valuable resources and information designed to ensure that carers are supported in becoming the healthiest version of themselves.

If you’re a carer, or know someone who is, we encourage you to take a look and make use of the support available.

Patients at our practice have been very fortunate to get hands-on support with digital healthcare tools thanks to a series of digital drop-in sessions run by our Patient Participation Group (PPG).

These sessions support the national move towards a ‘digital-first’ approach, as outlined in the NHS Long Term Plan, Fit for the Future: 10 Year Health Plan for England. They aim to give patients the confidence and skills to manage their healthcare online.

The sessions have focused on using Anima, the NHS App and other online services.

Pam Jones, PPG Vice-Chair and Secretary, said: “We often receive questions about Anima, the NHS App and ordering prescriptions online. Supporting patients to feel confident using these tools is part of our PPG’s role. We know how busy the reception team is, so we were delighted to see that running a few dedicated sessions could help both patients and the practice.

“Since Anima launched, we have run four support sessions and attendance has increased each time. The last two sessions were particularly well attended after being advertised in the Yaxley Gazette. Many patients told us that’s how they found out about them.”

One memorable moment for the PPG team was hearing from a patient with hearing difficulties:
“She told us that Anima has been her saviour, as she no longer has to rely on her husband to contact the surgery, especially for personal matters. We showed her extra support options to make the process even easier, and her face lit up. It was a magical moment – she truly felt included.”

While some patients found smartphone verification for the NHS App challenging, overall feedback has been overwhelmingly positive.

Pam added: “Patients really value having time to sit down and talk through their difficulties without feeling they are holding up a queue at reception. With three of us from the PPG running the sessions, no one had to wait, and patients appreciated not feeling rushed.”

Our Practice Manager, Aija Selby, praised the PPG’s efforts, saying: “We are so grateful to our PPG for taking the time to run these sessions. They have made a real difference to our patients, helping them feel more confident with digital tools. Their hard work and commitment are hugely appreciated.”

Following the success of these sessions, the PPG plans to run drop-in sessions every other month from September 2025. These will be advertised in the Yaxley Gazette, on Facebook and at the practice.

Pam concluded: “We will do our best to have up to three PPG members at each session. We will monitor attendance and adapt as needed to make sure patients continue to benefit.”

Thanks to everyone who came along to our first event for veterans at Yaxley, which proved so successful that it may be rolled out at other Lakeside practices.

The session promoted the help that veterans and their families can get from Armed Forces charities, local support services and South Peterborough Primary Care Network’s Personalised Care Team. It was organised by social prescriber Carole Gill, supported by Dawn Farey, the Personalised Care Team Lead.

Dawn said: ‘It was a great success as around 30 people attended the drop-in session and we got such positive feedback from everyone - veterans and organisations alike. They were really impressed that as a practice we had reached out to our veterans to offer support and guidance. Carole is our Veterans’ Champion and she put information packs together for each of our patients. It was lovely to see the patients talking to each other as well and it was all about bringing together people who can support each other.’

Afterwards Martin Bell, from the Cambridgeshire and Bedfordshire branch of SSAFA, (the Soldiers Sailors and Airmen’s Families Association), said: ‘Thank you for organising such a successful event. We found it very useful to meet so many veterans, and we do follow up on the conversations we had with them.’

If you are a current or veteran member of the Armed Forces and didn’t receive an invite, then please let us know so we can update our records and inform you of any future events.

Check your skin like Dr Mountis does☀️

We’ve launched a new campaign to help raise awareness of melanoma and the importance of both early detection and protecting your skin in the sun.

Our Skin Check Challenge features Dr Mountis, a GP at one of our partner practices, Lakeside Healthcare at St Neots. In the video, he explains how to check your skin for signs of melanoma and what to do if you notice any changes.

You’ll see him outdoors – but don’t worry, he’s wearing Factor 50 sunscreen and following all the right steps to protect his skin.

We’ve also shared a simple sun safety checklist on our website to help you stay protected while enjoying the outdoors.

👉 Watch the Skin Check Challenge video on Facebook, website or on our YouTube channel.
👉 Use the ABCDE checklist to check your skin.
