Is it?
From sometimes helping them at birth, to bottle feed them if needed, feed them even ( especially) during bad stormy cold weather, give them the medication requested, taking care of one them individually for days in case of medical issue, to pick up their fleece and bag it after shearing, to cross Scotland from North to South to drop the wool at the Mill to be spun, to collect plants to dye the yarn and achieve the right colour after getting the wool back, , to spend hours knitting, crocheting, weaving, try and try again...and try again patterns to the final product.
Yep, 100% for sure 😅😁.

Wool is a medium that give some much possibilities. From knitting to weaving or punch needle. , crochet .....
As a crafter, I'm not very happy in the repetition of making the same thing again and again. Sure, it helps to perfect the technique or the pattern and do it. But nothing makes me happier than to discover and try something new.
So, yes, the Croft House cushions will be presented at the Christmas fairs coming on Friday and Saturday. But not only.🐑🎄🐑🎄🐑

THE BEAST _ when the wool is spun, all the fleeces are mixed together to give Herdwick yarn or Cheviot yarn...
The exception came from this beautiful monster of a tup: Findley, who got his fleece spun on his own, giving me the *Findley yarn*.

Findley was born on our croft at . Actually, he was the first herdwick born of our only Herdwick at the time and became the little Prince of the croft. All black and unique surrounded by white lambs.
Unfortunately, he was a boy, and we never keep male lamb. Luckily, , our neighbours took him home.

Herdwick fleeces are rough and not always nice to work with. Spinning an adult tup fleece has been very challenging for , but they did it. 💪

Now, working with this yarn is also a challenge, but I found my way.
Here are the *Findley planters*, which with their white cheviot wool and Findley yarn are totally and freely inspired from the volcanic rocks of Score Bay, in front of the croft.
The pots are knitted loose before being fefted.

But more than everything, when everything goes wrong and you have a bad day, a bad time, remember that you are loved.

And if, like me, you have been so under pressure, exhausted, that you end up hating what you use to love, then stop. Take a step back, love yourself enough to take some distance, be honest with yourself and others, and hopefully love will come back.
Because the truth is that love looks like magic, but love in the long run needs works.
🌼 🌸 🌻 🌹 like a flower. Without the good stuff ( healthy ground, water, sunshine), it dies.

COLLABORATION _ I do not post regularly, but that doesn't mean that I stop working. Quite the opposite, actually 😅.
I don't post very often because I am completely overwhelmed by life and everything going on.
I do not take the time to record every step because I am so in the moment that it doesn't come to my mind to stop living to record it and post it.

And, It is exactly what happened for this project in collaboration with Paul from Raku Fusion, ceramist from Isle of Skye.
How many conversations, tests, do, and undo....knowing that everything started with a small conversation between our stands at a market one summer!

FLEECES_ I was in France visiting my family when shearing happened. It is always weird to see the girls without their wool the first couple of days 😄.
But now I am on my way to the Mills with the back of my wee red car full of fleeces to be spin. A long road trip to the 6/7h drive 😳🤯 from Skye to the Borders. 🚗

They are both settling in great to their new home.
And yes, I know I should not have named them but I did anyway so never mind 🙃.

SALE DAY _ All the year long we are working for this day. 🐑

And for a lot of crofters, it's certainly a good day.
However, from all the crofting life, it's the stage that I dislike the most.
I hate seeing the lambs being loaded in the truck going for the sale and even more seeing them leaving the sale ring after being sold. Some year's the prices are better than others but never mind, It never seems to be enough for all the effort, energy and hours spent, especially when you hear that in some other sales in England the prices are double. (even triple)

For me, it's a sad day... even more so, when some of the pet lambs are part of the sale. Unfortunately we cannot keep them all. And this year Elly and Nono have to go to be able to keep Broken. 😢

For a lot of crofters it's certainly a smiling day. As for me, I cried most of it.

RAINBOW SHEEP _ well Kenneth has his own rainbow too 🌈

Working the girls yesterday ( spot on and dose ) but most importantly selecting the lambs that we are keeping and the old ladies that we have to let go.
The colours code is for us to recognise which one is what the day before sale day to separate them regarding our decision.
Not an easy task. 😕
We are a small croft, meaning we have an wee history with most of the girls 😞 ...( and with my exhausting lambing this year, with the lambs too)
