A big thank you to Sarah. Today she was going to the International Dinner at the Sherwell Centre - a monthly gathering that celebrates the rich tapestry of cultures in the city through the sharing of delicious dishes from around the world.

As a Cancer Champion, Sarah also saw it as a great opportunity to share some information and encourage some conversations about cancer. Especially as it’s World Cancer Day on 4th February.

Thanks for making a difference Sarah 💜😊

Have you had a letter through the post and thought ‘I’ll get round to it, I check myself and I’m fine’?

Screening is all about early diagnosis to give the best outcome. For most people screening will just confirm what you thought ‘I’m fine’ 😊. But it could just find something very early that’s also very treatable.

Be like Clare - get checked - it could save your life 👍

Breast Screening Saves Lives 🌸

In the UK, women aged 50 to 70 are invited to go for free breast screening every 3 years. These screening mammograms can pick up breast cancer, even before there are any signs or symptoms. And the sooner breast cancer is found, the more likely it is to respond well to treatment.

For people like Clare, (pictured below), who had no symptoms, these mammograms can be lifesaving.

“It wasn’t obvious like a lump, it was such a shock to me and the whole family. I’m so grateful that I went for that screening. I really am the person without symptoms whose life was probably saved by going to that routine mammogram.”

The potential for breast screening to save more lives is huge. It finds most breast cancers early when chance of survival is 98%.

If you’ve just had a cancer diagnosis or are undergoing treatment take a look at the MySunrise App. It has lots of really useful info.

If you’re interested but the word ‘app’ puts you off then Nick our Digital Support Worker can help. He’s great at explaining stuff, will go at your pace and just chat things through over a cuppa. No judgement, no big complicated words just a straightforward ‘let’s see how I can help you’

Contact Nick by messaging us here or email PCCP@zebra.coop 😁😁

MySunrise App provides a complete up-to-date information and support tool for patients and their families before, during and after their cancer treatment at their NHS Cancer Centre. The MySunrise app works alongside NHS cancer centres in hospitals across Devon and Cornwall.
