National Fitness Day - What are you doing today to move more...?
We might have doctored a photo from the weekend to share, but it's better than the current state where we're melting into a menopause sweat post run/jog/walk. I've been a tad poorly this week with lots of nanna naps. So post our beginner group with Devon Mind this morning I went out to get some miles in.. I DID not want to go. However we need to practice what we preach. So I turned my session into running all the paths where I've wondered "what's down there?". And then adding on all the time to make myself do the full 75 mins.
Motivation comes from doing, not thinking.

What other tips do you have for getting out?

Helloooooo
We've been a tad quiet here recently with a few things going on personally..but we're back. Today was a very good day. Leading a new running group with Devon Mind, always love seeing people start their running journey and hearing why they want to start. . Followed by finally fitting in my own training run which resulted in looking like a drowned rat due to the torrential rain. Then seeing a 1-1 CanRehab client and talking all things movement for recovery and to prevent reoccurrence.
Can't share a photo of these amazing people so here's a photo of the mother of the coach who completed the great north run at the weekend for 5K Your Way. Move Against Cancer proving you can still move whatever your age.

Friday feels - also known as we missed Medal Monday as we were in the middle of Dartmoor sleep deprived from helping on a FKT attempt .

Last weekend this Legend ran a 2:09 half marathon in ridiculous windy conditions, knocking 18 mins off his last half marathon.

Toby did all this whilst navigating a very busy family life, plus working in a highly stressful job with very long and random shift patterns, as well as studying. Proof even with limited time we can still run.

Always a privilege to be part of his running story..

When the going gets tough - smile it out..
I had a blast at the Beer Blazer yesterday on a stunningly tough course.. beautiful scenery, brilliant marshalls and the reminder that it's ok to be at the back again..
We care so much about our own ability, and yet everyone I've ever met in the run community is so happy you're out there having a go.. why - because we know it brings so many benefits.

😁 Happy hormones
🧠 Better brain function
🥱 Improved fatigue levels
💪 Improved strength so you can stay independent for longer

More importantly we get outside to breathe and that's huge for our mental wellbeing.

Want to find your running mojo. We've got 3 spaces available for 1-1 coaching.

📝 Our plans are all bespoke. We take into account where you're at now, and where you want to go.

Plans are £50 a month and include:
🏃Training peaks - plans direct to your watch

Medals...
On Sunday coached athlete Jess went out and ran her first half marathon in an amazing time of 2.03.00. now this would be impressive for anyone, but Jess has been through treatment and surgery for breast cancer in the last 2 years. She is the true testament of what 5K Your Way can do for people..she joined us as a walker two years ago and now she's running half marathons.
We also had Sophia who we coached to her first half marathon recently, ran her first 10k race off the back of her half marathon fitness. Using the skills we taught her to get a 1,07. And then from our coaching group with Plymouth Harriers and another member of our 5k your way gang , I had the pleasure of running with Hayley to knock 2 mins off her 5k time.

No easy feat with the monsoon weather we had. Everyone was absolutely frozen and drenched before we began. Massive congratulations to the rest of Plymouth Harriers and 5K Your Way who took part as well as everyone else..

Devon Mind are putting on a great new course, they currently have 3 places left and Becky is assisting on the session. So if you fancy learning how to boulder sign up.

Mind over Boulder

We’re excited to announce the launch of our new 8-week bouldering for mental wellbeing course, taking place at The Climbing Hangar in Plymouth next month. Delivered in collaboration with experienced coaches, this course offers a small-group format designed to support both physical activity and mental wellbeing.

The aim of the course is to help individuals explore the many benefits of bouldering — from stress reduction and increased confidence, to improved resilience and overall wellbeing. Each session will explore the basics of indoor climbing without ropes, alongside practical wellbeing strategies that can be carried into everyday life.

Over the 8 weeks, you’ll be supported to develop a sustainable climbing practice that can continue beyond the course, whether independently or as part of a community, or as a positive form of self-care and holistic health. The course will be led by the participants’ ability and will begin in the quiet, relaxed area, providing a low-sensory, confidence-building space, before moving into the main climbing area as the group feels ready.

10 years ago ... My first 20 mile long run in prep for my first marathon, also known as the dress rehearsal hence the costume ... Wow seems like a life time ago... I didn't know then that I would end up becoming a run coach, OT and exercise specialist... I just loved dressing up and wanted to raise some money for the hospital as I felt entirely useless when my friend got diagnosed with cancer.. 10 years later and we've got 10 members of 5kyourway_plymouth taking on the Run Plymouth event tomorrow.. one I've coached to their first 5k run, and one I've coached to their first half marathon.. I can't wait to see how they all do.. and I'm eternally grateful for giving me a reason to run and then for sticking around to join in the fun and run with me at several events too... Wonder what the next 10 years will bring...

Well it's over a week on from London Marathon and I've realised I never actually shared on here. So here's me, Becky the founder of Invis-able Fitness, running the Marathon as a house for Helen & Douglas House and raised just shy of £5000.

Now I didn't know if I would make it. If I could manage the heat, or if I could even carry the weight..yes I'd trained for it. But you never really know what will happen on race day.. but I always have the "What IF?" In my head... What If I can? What if I take on this adventure, imagine all the amazing stuff that could happen..

Many years ago I chose What If I do a length in the swimming pool, What If I walk to the bus stop, What IF i try and and run... And now look at me - I ran a marathon as a house.

So if you're thinking What If? Why not come and join one of our groups, or sign up for some 1-1 sessions either in person or online..

We can help with run coaching, cancer exercise sessions and strength and balance..

What If - it's a magic saying......

Sadly all to often the headline doesn't match the article. I feel this is so misleading and could cause harm.. we need to promote moving through cancer diagnosis and beyond so much more. Not potentially put people off

The actual article talks about her mum advising her to wait a year to complete her a levels.. A better headline would have been Paula Radcliffes Daughter is going to run a marathon for a children's cancer charity that helped her..

A photo sums up more than words... 9 years ago I ran my local marathon to raise money for Emmaus. My run club picked them as the chosen charity and I foolishly said if you choose us I'll run the full thing... I was joined by two companions who completed the fun run and the 10k after starting running with me after work... These two had been previously homeless and we gave them a safe place to stay and rebuild their lives. Running helped with this.. it was the start of me retraining as a run leader and then a run coach.. I'm now really lucky to be able to coach online, in person and though my day to day job to get people moving more... Movement really is the best medicine .it gives us our power back .mentally and physically..it allows us to find our inner confidence, meet people and gain self esteem...

If you fancy joining in the fun we have a group tonight at central park in Plymouth open to all abilities. Meet at the clock tower at 6.30pm.

Look for the bright leggings and you'll find me.

For those not so local we also offer online training and after a suggestion from one of my runners we're looking at a meet up in the future to get together in person.
