Most people focus on the fat they can see or pinch, but the fat that matters most for long-term health is actually the kind you can’t see. Visceral fat sits deep inside the abdomen, surrounding your organs, and it behaves very differently from the softer fat under the skin.
Even someone who looks slim on the outside can have high levels of visceral fat, which is why it’s often called “hidden” fat. It’s more metabolically active, meaning it releases chemicals and hormones that can impact everything from blood sugar control to inflammation and cardiovascular health.
