Worrying about a loved one is natural, so knowing when they need additional support can feel tricky. Many people are concerned about acting too early, or taking away independence.

Signs like increased forgetfulness, mobility issues, difficulty completing daily tasks, or changes in mood can be early indicators that extra help might be needed.

The best approach is to have an open conversation: it’s best to start exploring options before reaching a crisis point, so you have the time and clarity to make an informed decision together.

Children are naturally curious, and when a carer starts visiting or living in your loved one’s home, they may have lots of questions. The best approach is to keep your explanation honest and simple.

You might say: “A carer is someone who helps Granny with things she finds difficult, so she can be safe and comfortable at home. They don’t replace us, but they make sure we have more time to enjoy together.”

Reassure your child that getting support for their loved one helps the whole family. Let them be part of introductions and encourage small, friendly interactions, so they can feel included and secure.

A nice reminder from our Franchisee Gary from Promedica24 North Yorkshire, Lancashire & South Cumbria . If you are interested in donating blood, you can find out more at https://www.blood.co.uk/

With all the nonsense, anger and division around the moment I thought it best to stay positive and do something worthwhile. We all have the same colour of blood running through our body and I have just donated some of mine.

Parkinson’s Disease develops gradually, and early signs can be subtle. Small changes in movement, speech, or handwriting may appear before more severe symptoms develop. Noticing these signs early means treatment and support can start sooner. Read more in our blog: https://hubs.li/Q03GkYWh0

Small memory lapses can be part of ageing, but dementia is more than occasionally forgetting things. Dementia is a syndrome caused by a variety of conditions, including specific brain diseases such as Alzheimer’s. Early detection and support can improve quality of life and help manage symptoms for longer.

September is World Alzheimer’s Month, an international campaign to combat stigma and raise awareness, so that everyone knows the signs and symptoms of dementia and how to get support when they need it.

This month and always, we’re raising awareness and understanding of dementia and showing that it will take a society to beat dementia. We’re also introducing our new look and feel for Dementia Friends, but our core mission of raising awareness and changing attitudes to dementia remains the same.

Keep an eye on our social media during September as we'll be sharing more information about how you can show your support this .

There are many different ways to pay for your care, so it’s important to research all available options. At the Care Curious Community Hub we were joined by Mick Long Community Action Network for a very informative " Cancer Awareness " talk, it was very interesting and I learnt some valuable information to help myself/people should the need arise, the talk was provided for Carers Paid and Unpaid, the talk will be repeated on the 15th October 10.30-11.30 at the Care Curious Community Hub in Ashley Road. I know it is a subject we would rather not talk about but should you need to help and support someone present itself, the information will help you to help them.
Please keep a look out and be sure to reserve your space.

Please contact myself on 01202618400 or email m.muller@promedica24.co.uk to reserve your space.

Care Curious Community Hub
Heathers Tearoom 233-235 Ashley Road, Poole ,Dorset, BH15 3NR
When: Wednesday 27th August 10-2pm
If you have questions relating to care and support for yourself or someone you care for, please pop in. Our aim to help people find the information and support they need.
If you know someone who would benefit from advice/information, please direct them to the Care Curious Community Hub or even better, join them for a hot drink.
The focus on local community support has never been greater, with the strain on social services and the NHS so evident, planning and being aware of your options are key to independence and choice.
With the support of our network, we have helped lots of people with not just the big things but also the small things no one talks about. Enabled someone to obtain a stairlift and equipment to enable them to remain at home. Signposted some lunch clubs. Memory impairment support, continence support, chatter clubs and perhaps one of the most important made the time to listen.
Save the Date
