I was first diagnosed with endometriosis almost 20 years ago, but for years after I suffered with painful symptoms, fatigue and regrowth. The doctors told me about my medication options and said some people find lifestyle helps but it was a bit of a case of find out for yourself. I wish at the time there had been better resources to point me in the right direction as to how I could implement these and start taking control of my condition. I tried a couple of times at changing my diet and I didn’t feel it did much until about 10 years ago when I tried a different approach and it was transformational. Within 2 weeks my pain had reduced, I was hardly taking any painkillers and I had loads of energy even though I was pre-op at the time for regrowth. It changed my life so much I retrained as a nutritional therapist to help others. So if you have been newly diagnosed or just have not been sure where to go when it comes to nutrition and endometriosis I’ve pulled together a new blog with my top 10 things, which I wish I knew about nutrition when I was diagnosed with endometriosis!

This is one of my favourite lunches! It packs in loads of flavour, is vibrant, fresh and delicious! Plus, it’s only around 400 calories, high in protein and contains 4 servings of veg - winner!

Would you like to learn more about how to help support your body and health through diet as an Endowarrior?

I am so excited to be offering this online, group workshop on Endometriosis and Nutrition happening in a couple of weeks time. Changes to my diet were so transformational for me in helping to manage my endometriosis and it’s the reason I retrained as a nutritionist so that I could learn more and help others!

It’s £25 for three hours and will cover the principles of healthy eating and how they can impact endometriosis plus key aspects of the condition, such as inflammation, hormone balance and detoxification.

Find out more and sign up here https://l.bttr.to/bteqG or on my website. Or if you have a question about the session please drop me a message!

I hope to see you there - it should be a really empowering session!

Today is the start of endometriosis awareness month. The first time I heard of endometriosis was when I was diagnosed with the condition almost 20 years ago. I had chronic pelvic pain and was barely able to work, which was no surprise really as everything from my belly button down was covered in cysts, scar tissue with some organs stuck together.

Endometriosis is a really important condition to raise awareness of because on average it takes 7-8 years to be diagnosed, plus a lot of people have never even heard of it or don’t fully understand it. Endometriosis is where cells similar to those in the lining of your womb, grow elsewhere in the body.

Common symptoms are pelvic pain which can worsen with your period but also ovulation or other times of the month, also back pain, pain during s*x or when going to the toilet. Plus heavier or irregular bleeding, fatigue and digestive issues such as constipation and diarrhoea.

So, if you have symptoms don’t ignore them! Contact your doctor and get them investigated.

For all you endowarriors out there I just want to let you know that there is hope! It took me many years to get to grips with this debilitating condition, but I finally feel like I have. Don’t give up! Look for support! You can also follow me for nutrition tips, recipes and advice.

This is why I do this!!

My mission is helping people to be able to live the fullest lives possible and feel great in spite of the health challenges they face. After years struggling with endometriosis, fatigue, pain and as a result excess weight the power of food gave me my life back. I want to share that knowledge and tools with others so more people can benefit from this! When you are chronically ill or suffering with health issues it can be really empowering to take control of an area of your health you can control - your diet. I’ve been there and got the T-shirt and now it’s my passion in life.

If you need support please get in touch! I offer 121 consultations and will also be running group programmes on endometriosis and other topics this year too.

You can read my full story on my website and find out more about how I can help you too. 💛

Fuel yourself like a boss to help you feel at the top of your game!

To help your body thrive you need to give it all the nutrients it needs, and fruits and vegetables are an absolute powerhouse, so we need to make sure we eat plenty in our diets everyday!

They contain vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and phytonutrients which are essential for our overall health and do important jobs such as help with energy production, hormone regulation, immune function, help to reduce excess inflammation and the list just goes on and on.

Plus they contain a lot of fibre which is important for our gut health and also helps to regulate our blood sugar and keep us feeling fuller for longer. So including fruits and vegetables in our meals could help to reduce cravings for snacks.

As a general approach I recommend eating 2 portions of fruits and at least 5 portions of vegetables each day. 5 portions of vegetables a day can seem a lot for some people but really it’s just 2-3 with lunch and dinner. So make sure at these meals your plate has a large proportion of veg or pack your pasta sauces, curries, chillis, stews and soups etc with veg too.

A portion is 80g of fresh, frozen or canned vegetables or fruit. So it can be useful to weigh this out to start with to get an idea of what a portion is. Or alternatively, there is a rough guide on the blog on my website so you can estimate e.g. 1 medium apple or 3 heaped tablespoons of carrots.

Make sure you eat a range of colours and different types of fruits and vegetables as they contain different nutrients. Getting a veg box subscription can also help with this as you get what’s in season and it changes every week so you don’t end up buying the same things all the time. Or try and see how many different fruits and vegetables you can eat in a month - you can make it a family challenge or competition.

Good luck and let me know how you get on!

Happy new year! 2024 is here and this January my advice is to focus on nourishing your body to help you thrive. I see many people motivated to change their diets in January but a lot of the time this can come from quite a negative place of guilt and shame about our bodies and how we’ve been eating over Christmas, so we end up punishing and depriving ourselves. This can result in highly restrictive diets which are unsustainable and only last a few weeks or sometimes months. Healthy eating should be an act of self care and give our bodies all the high quality fuel, vitamins, minerals and building blocks it needs to thrive. So this month I’ll be sharing lots of incredible recipes and practical advice to help you fuel your body well in a way that’s simple and you can love and sustain. So watch this space - or if you want some 121 support then book a free discovery call on my website! Here’s to a happy and healthy new year x
