This map shows just how uneven Europe’s relationship with ultra-processed food really is. In countries like the UK, Ireland and Germany, over 45–50% of household food purchases are ultra-processed, foods engineered for shelf life, speed and profit rather than nourishment.

Meanwhile, much of southern Europe, including France, Italy, Spain and Greece, remains far lower, often under 20%, reflecting stronger food culture, cooking traditions and connection to fresh ingredients. Where real food is protected, accessible and valued, people eat better. Where convenience dominates, health quietly pays the price.

🚨 CMS Removes Federal Ties Between Physician Payments and Childhood Vaccination Rates in Medicaid and CHIP

In a major development for healthcare policy and medical ethics, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced on December 30, 2025, that it "does not tie payment to performance on immunization quality measures in Medicaid and CHIP at the federal level."

This change eliminates federal financial incentives linked to vaccination rates for children enrolled in these programs.

Previously, quality measures—including childhood and adolescent immunization status—were part of mandatory reporting that influenced value-based payments and bonuses for providers.

Four key immunization measures have been removed from the 2026 Child and Adult Core Sets, with reporting now voluntary.

U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. described the policy as a step to "protect medical freedom and informed consent," emphasizing that medical decisions should prioritize patient well-being over financial metrics.

Experts have welcomed the shift:

- Mary Holland, CEO of Children’s Health Defense: “This directional change... helps to put vaccines back into the category of every other medical intervention, which is where they should be.”

- James Lyons-Weiler, Ph.D.: Called it “the most consequential federal policy reversal on pediatric vaccine incentives” and the start of a “long-overdue rebalancing.”

- Dr. Michelle Perro: Noted that tying compensation to specific decisions can erode trust, the foundation of pediatric care.

Historically, such incentives—dating back to the late 1990s—have been criticized for potentially influencing clinical judgment and contributing to pressure on families.

CMS is now exploring new measures focused on informed consent, vaccine education, and respect for religious exemptions.

States retain flexibility to maintain their own programs, but this federal action sets a precedent for prioritizing individualized care and parental rights.

This reform represents an important advancement in restoring trust and ethical practice in pediatric medicine.

As an osteopath I studied nutrition for a year as part of my course.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has announced plans to require all doctors to receive formal training in nutrition, saying modern medicine needs to focus more on food, prevention, and long-term health.

He argues that many chronic illnesses are closely linked to diet, lifestyle, and poor nutrition, yet doctors often receive very little education on these topics during medical school. The proposal is meant to shift healthcare toward prevention rather than just treatment, with nutrition playing a bigger role in patient care.

Supporters say this could help doctors better guide patients on managing weight, diabetes, heart disease, and other diet-related conditions. They believe stronger nutrition education could improve overall public health and reduce reliance on medication alone.

Critics caution that medical training is already intense and packed with essential subjects, and adding more requirements could increase pressure on future doctors. They also stress that nutrition advice must be based on solid science, not trends. The debate reflects a growing interest in preventive care and how modern medicine can evolve to keep people healthier for longer.

Fluoride in water is a controversial topic. Some argue that it’s a necessary addition for dental health, while others believe it should be a personal choice. No government should mandate the addition of medical substances like fluoride without consent. Families should have the right to choose whether or not they want to consume fluoride in their drinking water.

It's important to question the role of government in health decisions. With the many additives in our water supply, we need to stay informed about the substances that are being put into our bodies and advocate for transparency in these decisions.

The more informed we are about what’s in our water, the more empowered we become to make decisions that align with our health values. 🚰🔬
