5½ weeks post- distal radius break and ORIF surgery... 🦴

And I had some good news from my follow-up at the fracture clinic last week... 🩻

πŸŽ‰ I can go back to work (sooner than I had thought!). Wahoo πŸŽ‰

However, this will be a very gradual return. Doc has advised only a few hours if Soft Tissue Therapy a week to begin with... so I will be in touch with existing patients who were booked and had to reschedule first. It will still be at least 2 weeks before I am back in doing Assessment and Soft Tissue Therapy sessions, so please hang tight! 😊

Since I didn't post last week. I've noted some highlights from the last 2 weeks:
* I started doing my own soft tissue release, which has really helped with the mobility and stiffness
* The finger and hand pain weirdly lasted a really long time (it took to about week 4 to go). I was surprised at how long this took to go.
* The muscle wastage is real though, and it happens quickly!
* Continued with rehab but increased the range of motion, working through discomfort. Remember, discomfort is ok, pain is not (ideal).
* The rehab and recovery journey is supposed to be mostly linear. Some days might be worse, but weeks should be better than before. That means it is working.

Some of the metal work may need to be removed still, so it is another 2 appointments within the next month before they make that call. Will keep you posted!

Thank you to everyone who has been patient with me πŸ™πŸ½

When you get your 4-year-old to do your rehab for you, it may not go quite according to plan.... πŸ˜‚

Had the two of them on my arm the other day. It weirdly helped a lot 😁

Update coming next week on my progress. I have some news... πŸ‘€

Week 3
Post distal radius fracture and ORIF surgery

* Decided to buy my own splint for support as I was feeling vulnerable with a couple of flights over the weekend ✈️
* I still use the sling occasionally when I need to stop myself from doing too much!
* I got this from
It definitely has a good level of support and flexibility for sizing.

* The wound has almost healed. Got another nurse appointment later this week to remove the final stitch. All looking good in that area, apparently.

* Fingers are still very stiff and sore, despite doing specific rehab several times a day (see the video).

* It is looking/feeling like at least one of the screws will have to be removed as I cannot supinate (rotate) the wrist. And it is aggravating the ulna bone, strangely not to the radius (the broken one). I have an appointment with the consultant in 2 weeks, so will know more then.

More updates when I have something new to report 😁

* (Almost) 2 weeks post injury and ORIF surgery (open reduction internal fixation - i.e. pins and a plate in the broken bone) 🧷

* Stiches came out today, but steri stiches were placed as a precaution 🩹

* More range of movement, less pain, and can kind of tie my own shoes (just not very well!) 🫠

* Gentle movement exercises on my own, no physio has been advised πŸ€” (not what i would have thought would be recommended, but I am not the consultant)

* Follow-up x-ray in 3½ weeks 🩻

So, I have some news..

I had a boo-boo whilst on my snowboarding πŸ‚ holiday last week...

I broke my wrist and had to have surgery in France. This means my healing and rehab has already begun. However, I will be out of work at for at least 4 weeks πŸ™

On a positive note, I am hoping to get back in the studio for rehabilitation sessions as of next week (w/c 30th March) πŸ’ͺ

If you would like a pain/injury rehab session, get in touch.

I will try to do a series of my rehab journey for my wrist. So far, Week 1 has been chasing up the fracture clinic to get an appointment πŸ˜‚
