"A life in a day"..with Donald Macdonald.

Born and bred near Kingsburgh, Skye.

His father was a crofter, and his mother a house wife, bringing up Donald and his 4 brothers, and 2 sisters.

The boys all helped working the croft, tough hardy men. They were pretty much self sufficient, with the family making their own milk, and butter.

Breakfast was brose, 2 eggs from their own hens.
Lunch may have been sheep's head broth, which Donald remembers as been described as 'the best soup'....Once a guest found a tooth in the soup, and the person thought that they had lost their own tooth..but it was from the sheep.

Dinner was mince and tatties, their own lamb chops. Their own vegetables

The fleece would be sold to wool suppliers in Glasgow. They had a horse and cart to plough the croft.

If Donald hadn't become a crofter like his father, he would have maybe become a game keeper.

Attributes....Always be honest in life.

Thank you Donald for your time.

A life in the day.... Ian Thompson..

Grew up in Bishop Briggs near Glasgow.
Dad was a telecom engineer, Mum was a house wife.
During WW 2 when they heard the sirens....run to the shelter in the garden.
Family holidays were in Girvan, mostly Arbroath....and when they came home, they had to wash their clothes about 10 times so the odour of Arbroth Smokies made by Mrs. Ritchie would be removed.
Ian spent most of his life in sales, drink sales and TV sales companies.
His first car was driving a Morris Oxford, however the favourite car for Ian was a Ford Cortina GT....what a beauty.

Eventually Ian and his late wife Doreen started their own drain clearing business, and after 20 years running that, they later decided to retire, then to Skye.
We wish Ian good health when heading home, and hopefully we'll have more of his stories to tell.

Thank you.
