May 12th is International Nurses Day!

Here at Portree Medical Centre, we are lucky enough to have an amazing team of nurses and we are very grateful for all they do. On this day and always, we shine a light on the work that nurses do around the world and the impact they have on patients and their care.

This week is Mental health Awareness Week!

This Mental Health Awareness Week we’re asking people to join us in taking action to support good mental health. Even small actions can help us feel hopeful and less powerless. And while our individual actions matter, when we come together we are even more powerful.

Patients often ask why we ask you to quote a word when leaving voicemails or texts. This is to help us to locate the information quickly and pass on the relevant message.

"Docman" and "Daybook" are usually messages to be passed on from the doctor or hospital and are often in relation to information in clinical letters or results that have been received.

"Journal" messages are generally related to a review appointment that needs to be made, either for an ongoing condition or a follow up from the doctor.

"Appointment" will normally be regarding an appointment you already have made and may need to be changed.

Appointments are available daily between 8.30am and 5pm. All surgeries are by appointment only and can be made by contacting the Practice by phone (01478 612013), in-person or through the online facility.

Routine appointments are usually available to book approximately two weeks in advance (unless you are requesting a specific GP, which could be longer due to working days or annual leave).

We also have a number of appointments with our GP's and Advanced Nurse Practitioner that open up daily. You will need to call us when the phone lines open at 8am to make one of these.

For urgent issues, where no appointments are available, we always have a Duty Doctor on call who will telephone to determine if an emergency appointment or home visit is required.

Please also note that appointments can usually be made either face to face or on the telephone.
