Although it might not always feel that way, you are absolutely in the right place, and on the right path, and whatever destination your are trying to get to, you will get there. Your path will always look very different to everyone around you, and that’s exactly how it should be so try your hardest not to compare yourself and just focus on you. You got this ❤️

Most of us know where to go for help if we were to feel suicidal, but do we know how to recognise our own and others’ risk factors, or behaviours that could indicate someone’s intentions? I think that su***de is still a taboo subject for many, which means that we often turn a blind eye, but knowledge is power and it just might help you save a life, or your own life, one day. 💛

Affirmations are statements that can be used to help us recognise strengths 💪🏼 and reflect on positive experiences ✨, therefore promoting positivity + self-esteem = good wellbeing.

When you read an affirmation statement, I want you to think of at least one example or experience that proves that affirmation to be true for you and spend a moment to reflect on it. 😌 If you are struggling to think of an example for yourself, ask a friend or family member to help prompt you. It is also normal to think of examples that go against the affirmation (e.g I am not loved because Amy didn’t hug me yesterday), this is a natural human cognitive response. Put that thought to one side while you find a positive example instead, and then focus on that.

Swipe across for some affirmation statements, and give it a go. Save this post and come back to it every day or every other day to get your practice in. The more often you do this, the easier it will be to reflect on strengths and positive areas in your life, and your wellbeing will improve 💖

Big up Kate 🙌🏼 I have spoken to many families before who don’t want to reach out for support for their child because they don’t want them to “become part of the system” - how backwards is that? Children’s mental health services work much the same way as your doctors surgery does - 1. Let them know what’s wrong. 2. Book an appointment. 3. Schedule treatment. 4. Feel better! 🎉

Setting clear boundaries with your children and for your children, helps to create a sense of safety and certainty for them. As a result they will flourish in all aspects of their lives, and they will learn for themselves how and why to set healthy boundaries as they grow up.

Physical symptoms of anxiety can often be overlooked; “Are they tired?” “Are they falling ill?” “Are they playing up?” 🧐

They are a clear sign that our child is feeling anxious, but keeping an eye on patterns of these symptoms will help you to understand the difference between an anxious tummy ache, and a normal one.

Little me, little Rebecca. Shy and quiet, with a side of fury.

I wasn’t often pushed out of my comfort zone, I didn’t learn much about emotions or feelings at school, and my emotions were rarely addressed or validated. The perfect cocktail for an anxious teenager.

Luckily as an adult, I have the tools to help me manage my anxiety, but hindsight helps me to understand the importance of education and prevention in those early years. As a parent, the best thing you can do to benefit your child’s mental wellbeing, is to educate yourself and share your knowledge 👌🏼

Negative thoughts come and go, but they will always come back if they are left unchallenged. 😣These 3 simple questions will help you to reflect on the truth of the thoughts, and help you to see other perspectives, therefore empowering yourself over the thoughts and eventually reducing the amount of negative thoughts that you experience. Do this consistently to see the effects. 🙌🏼

Ask these questions to your children, family, and friends, when you notice they are expressing negative thoughts! Sharing is caring 🥰

💚 Make new connections, either by attending an event, or joining a local group or community
💙 Spend time with animals

62% of households in the UK contain pets. We are a nation of pet lovers, and why do you think that is? Because they are good for us, even when we don’t explicitly realise! Here are the top reasons why pets can boost our mental health:

🐶🐱🐭🐹🐰🐷🐸🐥🐴🐍🐢🐌

🐾 Pets promote social connection which can lower stress and anxiety levels, and increase social skills and confidence.

🐾 They provide companionship which makes us feel wanted, therefore boosting our self-esteem and reducing feelings of loneliness.

🐾 Caring for others, be it pets or humans, has been shown to boost mental well-being due to the hormones that are released in the brain when we do something good.

🐾 Pets encourage us to have structure and routine, and some pets (dogs I’m looking at you) just might be the motivating factor to get outside and move your body even when you really don’t want to.

🐾 Pets are cute and super fun and difficult to not smile at. When we smile, our brains release endorphins which makes us feel happier!

Practicing gratitude helps us to focus on things that are “good” in our lives. When we focus on the positive things, we inform our brain’s mental filter that we are positive, and it will then filter more information that fits with that positive perspective. When you practice gratitude, you will notice an abundance of things that are worthy of your gratitude everywhere you go.

Swipe for some simple prompts that you can use each day to help you practice gratitude. Choose 1-3 prompts to start with and see how your mindset changes ✨
