Communication is so important as a therapist. You can say all the things you want but if it isn’t heard it’s irrelevant.

This is useful in relationships as although we can communicate a point it isn’t always listened to and therefore not heard.

Using metaphors, interests and speaking in a non confrontational way allows us to be heard better and our point to be listened to. Being right but unheard is pointless and a waste of words.

Love this from and . These are solid therapy questions but so useful in a relationship. So often the experience we have had in life impacts our relationships and these questions can help navigate these tricky conversations.

Coffee and a notebook. Two of a therapists best friends. The notebook is so important to a therapist and a client. In it are all the important details that a client trusts me with. A chance to recap before each session and see where we are at. A chance to evaluate the progress of our work. Note taking is an important disciple for a therapist to engage with.

P.S. Look at the skills of my barista this morning!

Ready for another evening of therapy. One thing I hadn’t factored in becoming a therapist was working evenings. Of course people are usually busy in the day so there are a lot of requests for evening sessions.

I have noticed a need to be flexible around client’s schedules while also being sure not to over exert myself trying to make everyone work.

It looks like just a room but within this room people from all walks of life come to bravely tackle some of the most difficult moments and feelings from their lives.

Some people like to think of therapy as a quick fix to give solutions to complex problems. Many of my clients have been online to see what Google recommends. But therapy for me is all about the relationship, the quality of the conversation, the quality of being heard and properly listened to.

It looks like just a room but it’s so much more.
