Did you know acupuncture is a great solution for pain relief?

If you are looking for alternative or complementary support to assist you, then acupuncture could be the answer.

It can help to optimise a woman’s endocrine system, regulate the nervous system and stimulate the release of endorphins which are the “feel good” hormones, in turn calming the mind.

"Rebecca was recommended to me in 2016 after a breast cancer diagnosis, because of her experience of supporting cancer patients. She has helped enormously over the last three years with a range of symptoms, mainly related to menopause but also as a result of cancer drugs side effects. She has been kind, compassionate and committed to improving my health, supporting me through a series of unexpected ‘life events’ which has helped with my mental as well as physical well- being."

Winter Blues?

Bring your body back into balance by acknowledging your fears. The winter blues are often accompanied by fear, anxiety, and worry. Begin to notice your feelings and how you respond to them. Those responses are often based on past experiences, or on the fear of “what if”. Once you are aware of the way you contribute to your own fears, you can take a step toward changing them and letting them go.

Every January, the fitness and wellness industry enjoys a bit of a boom, but which bio-hacking trends are over-hyped and perhaps not even that good for us? This week, two BAcC acupuncturists were featured in the national press weighing in on the latest health trends.

Sahar Hooti spoke to The Guardian about acupressure mats, and Maddy McCarthy shared an acupuncturist's perspective on cold plunges for women, in Marie Claire. You can read the articles here: https://www.theguardian.com/.../do-acupressure-shakti... https://www.marieclaire.co.uk/.../is-cold-plunging-good...

Thank you to Sahar and Maddy for representing us. And of course we can all agree that the best January reboot available is the 2000 year old trend of Traditional acupuncture. So, if you're in need of some self-care, you can find your nearest BAcC registered acupuncturist here: https://acupuncture.org.uk/find-an-acupuncturist/

Craving sugar?

Sweet boosts Stomach function, and is usually a sign that your digestive system needs some extra TLC. Listen to your body. Are you using the bathroom regularly? If not, are these the times when that chocolate craving just won’t go away?

What if you were to honour your craving?

Snack on some fresh or dried fruit or stir a spoonful of honey into your tea. For something more substantial, bake pears or apples with honey, cinnamon, and walnuts. Of course, indulging every so often isn’t all that bad. Feel free to have chocolate when you just can’t resist. But when you do, imagine it going right where it needs to go—to give your digestive system a much-needed boost.

Craving salt?

Salt stimulates Kidney function, which is tied to the body’s energy reserves. Think about the times you normally crave crisps. Is it usually late at night? When you’re running low on energy, salt is a go-to.

What if you were to honour your craving?

Snack on salted nuts, wasabi peas, or seaweed crackers. If you crave salt throughout the day, add more seafood to your diet to give your Kidney energy a boost.

And remember: the best remedy for being low on energy is to recharge your batteries. Get lots of sleep and try to lighten your daily load.

While the birds, bears, and trees have worked out how to manage less sunlight and colder temperatures, humans still push along. And all of this pushing leaves us feeling tired, anxious, and sometimes even sad.

But the winter blues are nothing to fear—they’re simply the body’s way of communicating. The body is giving you hints so you can step in and make some positive changes.

The Kidney is dominant at this time of year, and its sensory organ is the ears. To support your Kidney from the inside-out, wear a hat that covers your ears. Once inside, rub your ears with the palms of your hands until they are red and warm to the touch.
