✨ 11+ at The Homegrown Learning Hub ✨
Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturday mornings are all about 11+ at The Hub for our Year 4 and 5 children 📚
This week, Eve and Holly made full use of our breakout spaces and resources when some children needed extra support with word ladders in Verbal Reasoning. Using our mix tiles and letter cards, the children physically moved letters to create new words – turning a tricky concept into something concrete. Once the strategy was mastered, they confidently transferred it back to the written questions 🙌 🤩
Alongside this, Holly had the children being the teacher, explaining concepts to the group on the flip chart which they loved! 👩🏫 Eve’s group had great fun writing sentences using parentheses (something about her being beautiful 😂) before progressing to hyphens, dashes, brackets and the multiple use of commas.
All in all… a great week ⭐
FULL DISCLOSURE:
We don’t remove children from classes to protect our data and we will never measure our success by publishing results. Before opening The Hub, we agreed that while we will always strive for the highest possible outcomes for our children, data would never define them and be their only accomplishment.
In fact, some children on our 11+ programme aren’t even planning to sit the exam. They come to build confidence, strengthen skills for secondary school and because they genuinely love being at The Hub.
We have open, transparent conversations with parents and, in Year 5, hold parent meetings where we use assessments and gaps analysis to carefully target support and move progress forward with purpose.
But children are so much more than numbers. Their achievements go far beyond data. Our sessions promote high expectations, strong outcomes, and targeted teaching which close gaps and stretch and challenge — all while keeping happy, confident children at the heart of everything we do 💚
