I am hosting a five day immersive visionary painting retreat starting on Sunday 5th October and ending on Thursday 9th Oct at Buzzards Nest in the heart of Mid Wales.
We will be working with ‘Mischtechnik’ or ‘mixed technique’ that uses thin oil glazes combined with layers of fast drying egg tempera to achieve works of great luminosity similar to the works of the old masters and used my many of the leading artists in the Visionary Art community. We will be exploring visionary compositions with hints of magical realism in order to best utilise the Mischteknik process. Over the five days we will cover composition, painting techniques, colour, materials, glazing, authenticity, referencing versus the imagination and personal process.
In order to do this we will be working on several paintings and gently assisted along the way. We work in a step by step considered approach to painting and composition that allows for an organic emerging of artwork that aligns with both personal core values alongside objective aesthetics.
This is a deep dive into your own personal creative process regardless of whether you are an experienced artist or just beginning your creative path and you will be learning new skills and techniques alongside other students. Working together with care, love and respect, we are encouraged to bring forth authentic renderings of personal themes and perspectives in ways that honour the traditional alchemic principles underlying oil painting. As well as acquiring new skills, there is an opportunity for personal transformation as we step beyond previous limitations into new realms of our creativity.
This intimate retreat is fully catered with simple veggie food and the studio is set in the most beautiful location with stunning views and opportunities to immerse yourselves in nature. All materials are provided although some personal brushes are recommended.
I have been painting for 18 years and have exhibited across the UK and abroad.
