Her first class was such a profound experience that she committed every spare moment to taking classes and working at the centre. She went on to do her Sivananda Teacher Training at their ashram in Grass Valley, Nevada. Owing to the diversity of yoga that was offered in Los Angeles, Jacqui had the opportunity to study other styles with experienced teachers. Ashtanga “Power” yoga with Bryan Kest in
Santa Monica and Kundalini yoga (tapping into the energy body) with Gurumukh in West Hollywood. More recently after her return to Liverpool, Jacqui has begun to study Jivamukti yoga, which the founders Sharon Gannon & David Life describe as “soul liberation”. She has also just completed 18 months of teaching hot yoga at Yoganation in Liverpool. Her hot classes are a series of balancing postures combined with vinyasa (flowing) sequences. Outside of the hot room in her other yoga classes, Jacqui likes to respond to the energy of the participants and create sequences drawing on the various styles of yoga she has learnt. She believes that yoga is not just about the physical postures (the asanas) but is a way of life that can help anyone reach their full potential as a human being. She qualified with the Santa Monica School of Massage in Los Angeles. Prior to this she had already trained in Shiatsu massage at the Shiatsu School of Massage in Santa Monica. She further honed her skills in massage therapy working alongside a team of two experienced chiropractors in Los Angeles, one of whom was Dr Franco Columbu, former Mr Universe, whose training helped Jacqui develop her own unique style of bodywork combining Swedish, Shiatsu and Deep Tissue techniques including an emphasis on trigger points. Jacqui’s training as a Reiki Practitioner, having been attuned to Level 3 Reiki in Usui Shiki Ryoho Reiki, and her passion for naturopathic nutrition of which her knowledge is extensive, have enabled her to take a very holistic approach to bodywork of which she now has 16 years of experience.
