As winter slowly melts into spring, nature begins to shift — but the body doesn’t always change overnight. In Ayurveda, this transition sits within Kapha season, a time characterised by heaviness, moisture, and accumulation. Just as the earth is still damp and dense from winter, our bodies and minds can carry that same quality.
Late winter often brings a certain weight with it — in the air, in the body, and in our energy.
You might notice feeling:
• sluggish or low in motivation
• heavy after meals
• foggy or slow to think
• more attached to comfort and routine
• low in energy
• mentally stuck or emotionally flat
If this resonates, it’s important to remember — this isn’t a personal failure. It’s seasonal physiology.
Kapha energy naturally builds through winter and begins to soften and melt as spring approaches. When it accumulates, it can leave us feeling slow, dull, or stagnant. But Kapha itself isn’t something to “fix.” It’s an energy to work with and understand.
This season doesn’t ask for force or extreme change. Instead, it invites gentle movement, warmth, lightness, and space.
Small shifts.
Soft activation.
Subtle circulation.
Think warming foods, steamed green vegetables, and meals that feel lighter and easier to digest. Reducing heavy, oily foods, excess dairy, refined carbs, and sugary foods can help bring balance during this time.
Support the shift with a little more movement too — slightly more vigorous activity that builds warmth and even brings on a light sweat, helping to move stagnation and reawaken energy.
Fresh air, lighter routines, and simple daily practices can gradually help the body transition out of winter’s stillness. 🌿
