As we reach the end of the week, we’re reflecting on the conversations, partnerships, stories, and support that have filled .
This week creates an incredible space to spark the conversation, but it can’t end here. Because maternal mental illness is an everyday reality, all year round.
For every family finding their way. For every parent carrying more than they can say. For every mum who needs understanding, support, and a system that truly sees her.
The momentum we’ve built together matters. Now we keep going. All year round.

Behind the balloons, the flowers, the “you must be so happy”…the reality for many mums is very different.

Nine in ten told us they struggled with their mental health after having a baby.
1 in 5 experience a perinatal mental health condition.
84% still feel the weight of stigma.

Some are battling frightening, intrusive, even suicidal thoughts, while the world expects them to smile.

This is why we take action.

We're stepping forward, we're breaking stigma. For Maternal Mental Health.

It might be a bank holiday, but maternal mental health doesn’t get a day off.

The new mum on the bus.
The young family in the park.
The multigenerational family out for lunch.

It’s not “someone else’s issue.”
It’s all of us.
It’s our communities.
It’s our families.

1 in 5 mums experience a mental health problem.
84% hide how they’re feeling because of stigma.

This week, we take action.
This week, we break the silence.
This week, we stand with every mum who deserves better support.

Maternal Mental Health Awareness Week starts now.
No mum should ever feel alone.

On a day built for pranks, we’re choosing honesty instead.

Behind the laughter, the memes, and the April Fools’ chaos on social media, the reality is this:

Su***de is the biggest killer of young people under the age of 35 in the UK.
Approximately 200 school children die by su***de every year.

1 in 10 secondary school children self-harm, and since January 2020, the number of children and young people in contact with secondary mental health services has more than doubled.

There are currently over 5 million people on the wait list for mental health services, and for people with serious mental illness, they are faced with the reality of dying 15-20 years prematurely from preventable physical health issues.

Enough.

On today of all days, lets remember: Mental health is no joke. Every single statistic represents someone who deserves better.

We can change the numbers. We can change the story.

Together we can save lives.

94% of our participants report improved mental wellbeing. That's the power of movement. Join us: www.sportinmind.org
