What could you build with 3 pegs, 5 elastic bands and 10 lollipop sticks? 🪵🪢🍭

Planning matters in coaching.

My intention is always the same, to help young people feel confident, competent and able to think for themselves. 🌱

This young person has an incredible eye for design, so I planned our session around their strength.

The challenge?
Build the tallest structure possible. It had to stand for at least 10 seconds. ⏱️

They were completely in it. Talking about centre of gravity. Weight distribution. Adjusting. Testing. Rebuilding. 🔄

What they created was beyond what I could have imagined.

While their hands were busy building, we were weaving coaching conversations naturally. There was no pressure. No spotlight. Just thinking, reflecting and problem solving together.

When young people are active, they relax.
When they relax, they think more clearly.
This is often when confidence quietly builds. ☀️

Finding the shine in young minds.

😊 A smile is contagious. 😊

Simple, powerful and free.

I love watching how a smile spreads.
It fills our hearts and minds with those happy hormones. 🥰

🌟 A Heartfelt Thank You! 🌟

I’m so touched by the kind words shared about my work as a Child Mental Health Coach. Supporting young minds on their journey to confidence and emotional resilience is at the heart of what I do, and knowing it’s making a difference means so much.

To the wonderful parent who took the time to share such a lovely review—thank you!

It was a privilege supporting your son. 💛☀️❤️

Yes, I know it’s wrong and this is absolutely not what is nutritionally good for me, BUT sometimes the love of chocolate and a cuppa takes over!!!

I have to go with it, nurture the joy and inhale the next bit of Cadbury satisfaction!!! 😂 We’re all human, we have flaws, and we should absolutely indulge the simple pleasures occasionally, repeat, occasionally!

Coaching is not about berating, it’s about reflection, nurture and kindness, it’s about holding space and encouraging parents and children!

I’m not going to be sanctimonious and say that just because I know the theory, I get things right and practice what I preach for myself! We’re human and we’re not perfect and when it comes to occasional chocolate haemorrhaging that’s ok! 😜

Sending love to all my chocolate eating parents! I’m standing by you today on this (yet again) rainy one! Let’s stick together and smile through the muddiness of life! You’ve got this, one mouthful at a time! 😜 🥰

NB. Very grateful to a client who gave me these as a little thank you. They made my day. 🙏 🥰 🍫

Sometimes we doubt, sometimes we fail, sometimes we feel meh! This is all very normal and it’s ok, in fact it’s good, to feel and sit in the uncomfortable feelings.

What’s also good is to notice when they sit inside us for too long.

A little way, I try to pep myself up is by being thankful - maybe reading old cards given to me by children I’ve worked with, or looking out of the window and being thankful for the snowdrops (first signs of spring!)

Practising gratitude with our children can be a simple way of igniting those happy hormones.

If they find it hard, perhaps suggest these:

⭐️ One small thing you noticed today

🧃 Something that helped today

💬 A moment that was calm / funny / interesting

Today, I’m grateful for spending time with my family, clients and the coziness of my little office.

Big hugs to you all,

Zoe 😊 xx

💛 Something I notice often in my coaching work with children…

Many children will go a whole school day not going to the loo.
Some are physically holding it.
Some don’t realise they need to go.
Some don’t want to stop what they’re doing.
Some avoid school loos altogether.

I also see children insisting they’re not hot, even when they’re still wearing jumpers and their cheeks are flushed red.

This links to interoception — the ability to notice body signals like:
• needing the loo
• hunger
• tiredness
• feeling cold or hot

For many neurodivergent children, these signals aren’t always clear or reliable.
That doesn’t mean their bodies don’t need care — it means they often need to be taught to notice and respond.

It is okay for a child to say they don’t want to wear a coat.
And… there are also things we still need to do to help prevent other behaviours and difficulties building up.

Because when bodies aren’t supported:
• hunger can turn into hangry
• needing the loo can lead to fidgeting
• fidgeting can lead to less focus and learning

A quick adult pause helps here.
When you need the loo, can you really focus on what your boss or partner is saying?
It’s hard.

Now think about your child or young person in a classroom.

✨ This isn’t misbehaviour — it’s body awareness still developing.

In coaching, I support children to:
✔️ build simple routines (loo before lessons, regular eating, coat and jumper checks)
✔️ pause and notice body signals
✔️ understand why bodies need looking after
✔️ practise responding, even when the signal isn’t strong

This isn’t about forcing.
It’s about teaching practical skills that support focus and learning.

Today is a gentle reminder to be kind to yourself. Parenting looks different in every family, and that’s ok. There is no one “right” way just your way.

Some days feel hard. Some days feel easier. On the tough days, when it feels like it’s all a bit too much, please remember… you’ve got this.

You are doing more than you realise. Small steps matter. Love matters. And showing up, even when it’s hard, really matters.

Be kind to you today. 💛

💎Glimmers - nature brings a moment of joy in the most simples of ways.

☘️ This little tiny clover did this for me. It brought an instant smile to my face. 😊

It’s when we take time to be present, slow down and notice our surroundings that we can absorb these tiny moments.

Our children can be taught this too - encouraged to take a breath and spot the glimmers that are sometimes right under our noses.

Have fun spotting the glimmers - they bring happy hormones and a smile. 😊

Make it fun. Enjoy the moment. 🥰
