Sometimes apologising to their children can make parents feel out of control and they were conditioned as a child themselves that adults are always right or children need to know who is boss. Yes children need to see you can lead them and you can be in control in situations so they feel safe to be a child and be dependent on you. On the otherhand though repair is important and apologising for causing your child distress keeps them in a sense of security in their relationship with you. It also teaches them that mistakes are ok and that apologising and accountability is essential to be a good human. # credit to artofparenteen

A beautiful way of looking at grief. Externalising the grief through creating a peice of art, a memory book or planting the person's favourite plant or tree can be very healing. Honoring your lost loved one this Christmas by playing their favourite song or eating their favourite food or raising a toast to them can also soften the grief. Children can process grief through play and art. Grief needs to be acknowledged and soothed not buried. Credit to love wide open ❤️

Yesterday Adoption UK met with the Children’s Minister, Josh MacAlister MP, at the DfE offices in Westminster to talk priorities for improving outcomes for adoptees.

We urged the Minister to:
- confirm funding for the ASGSF for next year asap
- commit to a permanent fund
- ensure any future reform of the fund is carried out following a full and open consultation with adoptees, their families, and the sector
- review wider adoption support, including mandating full multidisciplinary assessments pre adoption, and robust support planning with regular reviews ahead of key transitions
- include adoptees in wider policies designed to improve outcomes for care experienced people
- reverse cuts to the ASGSF

We will publish more on our proposals in the coming weeks.
