1. People don’t change unless they want to.

No matter how skilled or compassionate you are, some people are simply not ready or willing to change. Learning to let go of a desired future and accept what is really happening NOW can be crucial. This is also my experience personally and professionally.

2. Self-care is non-negotiable.

Burnout doesn’t serve anyone and stems from perfectionism, people-pleasing and a belief that unless you give your all, you’re not enough (mainly due to unmet needs in childhood). By prioritising your own mental, physical and emotional needs daily you begin to show up fully for yourself and others. Not only is self-care NOT selfish, it’s the best gift you can give as you show up with focus and presence. I personally allow more space and time around both clients and social plans these days to ensure I am fully re-charged.

3. Boundaries are acts of kindness.

Saying ‘no’ and setting limits can feel uncomfortable, but it’s absolutely necessary to maintain personal and professional integrity. Clear boundaries create safety and respect and teaches people how to be with you. As I’ve got older, I am MUCH clearer about what I need and who I want to spend time with - personally and also professionally.

4. Discomfort is useful data.

100%. Every challenge and curveball offers lessons and new insight that will direct you to a more authentic path. By welcoming the messiness of life and embracing deep healing rather than quick fixes, more meaningful transformation can emerge. Discomfort is how your brain grows and how humans have kept evolving.

5. You’re a work in progress and that’s ok.

Decades of experience doesn’t mean you ever stop learning. The biggest trap is thinking you have to be good at everything - it blocks you from being a beginner. By staying open to growth, feedback and change, your brain can rewire and build new pathways that allow you to see things through a different lens. Every experience and client have taught me something new and for that I’m SO grateful ❤️.

It is a privilege to get older and every day offers new opportunities to walk a more authentic path in life.

There was a time when I was pretty dysregulated, to put it mildly.

I didn’t know my own limits, didn’t know who or what suited my nervous system and had WAY too much going on. My inner signals were something to ignore or socialise over and to no ones surprise, I was often exhausted but kept pushing through regardless.

You might be the same.

But I also noticed there were things I came back to, again and again, that had a really positive effect on me despite the utter chaos in my environment. I didn’t realise it back then, but those were my regulators and energy creators.

And we all have that within us. The stuff we do just because on some level it gives us a moment of being present, away from the stress and worry. And it gives more than it takes.

Here are some questions to ask yourself:

- When are you calmer and what are you doing?
- What do you move towards effortlessly (and what feels like a struggle)?
- Who do you come away from feeling energised and uplifted?

As you age, those things become more important. Knowing yourself is not just a ‘nice to have’, it’s an essential in my book.

I spent a lot of time developing the searching questions in my workbook, to make it easier to identify who you are and what you actually want in life.
Because that is really what it boils down to - finding YOUR way of doing life. And the confidence to show up as your authentic self.

Many of us feel divided.

We want expansion yet opt to play safe. We long for change but remain in the comfort of the familiar.

Is this you?

Your inner critic (aka your protector) tells you that what you want is not possible, not for YOU and not now.

So you stay small and put up with what is, convincing yourself that you’re fine.

You might think you’re the wrong age, that it’s too late, that the ship sailed years ago and that you’re under-qualified anyway.

But yours is not a competence problem - it’s a deep belief you’re not good enough as you are.

Because it’s HARD to put yourself out there when you’re full of doubt. To declare new directions when you’re told to stay put where you are.

What if I look stupid?
What will people say?
What if I fail?
Is it even worth it?

But I believe the route to breaking this deadlock is to find your why - something that is stronger than your fear.

Start asking yourself….

🎈Why is what I long for so important to me?

🎈 What is the feeling I’m after? Is it a sense of freedom, safety, calm, independence? What sits underneath my drive?

🎈What would the benefits be if my longings came true? Or even more to the point- who would benefit? Could you retire your parents? Would you inspire your kids by showing them what is possible? Would your health improve if you stepped into a new way of life?

Understanding the driving force behind your desires awakens a clearer path that acts as a navigation system of sorts.

Your brain loves clarity and momentum - it finds it easier to show you the next right step. Momentum and inspiration are your internal fuel that give you courage to pursue your dreams regardless of what people may say.

Because those who give you a hard time as you transform and pivot are NOT your people. They are too invested in you staying the same.

The more you connect to your why, your purpose - the less fearful you’ll be of not fitting in, of sticking out and being seen. Feeling good and at peace IS the holy grail 💕

I help women like you build unshakable self-worth for the their next chapter 💪. Comment MIDLIFE to find out more.
