1. People don’t change unless they want to.
No matter how skilled or compassionate you are, some people are simply not ready or willing to change. Learning to let go of a desired future and accept what is really happening NOW can be crucial. This is also my experience personally and professionally.
2. Self-care is non-negotiable.
Burnout doesn’t serve anyone and stems from perfectionism, people-pleasing and a belief that unless you give your all, you’re not enough (mainly due to unmet needs in childhood). By prioritising your own mental, physical and emotional needs daily you begin to show up fully for yourself and others. Not only is self-care NOT selfish, it’s the best gift you can give as you show up with focus and presence. I personally allow more space and time around both clients and social plans these days to ensure I am fully re-charged.
3. Boundaries are acts of kindness.
Saying ‘no’ and setting limits can feel uncomfortable, but it’s absolutely necessary to maintain personal and professional integrity. Clear boundaries create safety and respect and teaches people how to be with you. As I’ve got older, I am MUCH clearer about what I need and who I want to spend time with - personally and also professionally.
4. Discomfort is useful data.
100%. Every challenge and curveball offers lessons and new insight that will direct you to a more authentic path. By welcoming the messiness of life and embracing deep healing rather than quick fixes, more meaningful transformation can emerge. Discomfort is how your brain grows and how humans have kept evolving.
5. You’re a work in progress and that’s ok.
Decades of experience doesn’t mean you ever stop learning. The biggest trap is thinking you have to be good at everything - it blocks you from being a beginner. By staying open to growth, feedback and change, your brain can rewire and build new pathways that allow you to see things through a different lens. Every experience and client have taught me something new and for that I’m SO grateful ❤️.
It is a privilege to get older and every day offers new opportunities to walk a more authentic path in life.
