YAS CFR, North Yorkshire and The Dales Investing in Volunteers - Proud to be accredited

We achieved the UK quality standard for good practice in supporting volunteers.

For further information visit: https://iiv.investinginvolunteers.org.uk/ The Community First Responder (CFR) scheme is a life-saving partnership between Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust (YAS) and local communities. As authorised volunteers for YAS, Community First Responders form teams located in communities across Yorkshire as part of a wider initiative which aims to help reduce the number of pre-hospital deaths in Yorkshire. New recruits will join hundreds of volunteers living in local communities across the region who are trained to provide life-saving treatment to residents in their area in the vital first minutes of an emergency until our ambulance clinicians arrive. YAS is committed to providing the high quality services to and care to all those living in, or passing through, Yorkshire and this initiative undoubtedly helps to achieve this. North Yorkshire

It is an absolute honour to work in an area with such fantastic and committed Volunteer Community First Responders.

This year so far, they should have completed a minimum of 6,000 volunteer hours in support of Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust. That’s 20 hours a month per volunteer, with a steady average of 50 active volunteers a month.

Infact in the whole year (12 months, Jan to Jan) they should complete a minimum of 12000 volunteer hours.

However this year so far 1st Jan - 31st Aug they have completed a whopping 20,521 volunteer hours.

I have the upmost respect for all our volunteers within YAS, but I am so proud to be a part of the amazing volunteers, in Team North, North Yorkshire and The Yorkshire Dales.

You truly epitomise each YAS Core Value and I thank you from the bottom of my heart!

August Recruitment closes in 2 days

if you wish to start your Volunteer Community First Responder journey why not get it in now....

Don't think your ready, let me guide you on time scale....

Recruitment closes on a working day close to the end of the month.

My line manager and I then have to short list all applications.

You are then invited to an induction evening approx, mid month. (generally a wed night)

If successful at induction and interview, you then go to the world of DBS, this can take between 6 weeks and 6 months.

once DBS is Clear and returned, You are then invited to a training course, these courses are 4 days and over a weekend. In the North these are 1 day on the first weekend, both days on the next weekend and one day on the following weekend.

Once you have passed the course you are introduced to your local Scheme and start to support patient care within your community and beyond, due to modern technology, you are no longer restricted to your local area, so can log on call whilst moving around Yorkshire and continuing with your life.

Are you 18 years old?

do you have access to a vehicle?

Can you commit to a 4 day weekend course?

can you give a minimum of 20 hours of on call time a month? (flexible)

Do you want to make a difference within your community and be a part of an amazing organisation?

Our volunteers may be the first responders you see when you ring for an ambulance when you recognise someone has had a stroke.

They are there to reassure you and gather information for the clinicians prior to the arrival of an ambulance.

They will take the patients story and carry out a series of observations, such as heart rate and blood pressure. These can then be shared with our remote clinicians in our control centre for further early advice on your care.
