It’s very normal for your baby to want extra feeds when it’s hot 🥵

Don’t forget that babies under 6 months get all their hydration through feeds, so they need the extra milk 🍼🤱

If breastfeeding, make sure you’re getting lots of hydration too 💧

If your baby is over 6 months, make sure you’re offering water throughout the day to ensure they stay hydrated 💦

Stay cool team 🧊

Swipe ➡️ for tips to beat the heat and stay sun safe ☀️

Babies under 6 months need to be kept out the sun, as their skin contains too little melanin so they don’t have any natural sun protection.

🌳 If you go out, use a parasol, sunshade or air permeable cover. We used the (use code BABYSTEPSPHYSIO at checkout for discount 😉).

🧴It’s personal preference whether to use sun cream on your baby. If you do, make sure it’s at least SPF 30, baby sensitive and protects against both UVA and UVB rays.

🍼 freeze your baby’s usual milk to make milk lollies to keep them cool and hydrated. 🍉 and 🥒 are high in water content too.

💤 try to keep baby cool when sleeping. If you use sleeping bags, make sure you have lower tog rating for summer:

🥵 22-24 degrees = short sleeved vest and 1-1.5 tog bag

🥵🥵 24-27 degrees = short sleeved vest and 0.5 tog bag or less

🥵🥵🥵 27 degrees plus = just a nappy is fine (with 0.2 bag or less)

Good luck and stay cool 😎

It’s always really hard to know what to dress your baby in when the weather is warm (or cold for that matter!) ☀️

Swipe ➡️ for a rough guide 👌🏼

🌟 TOP TIP 🌟
If the room fluctuates in temperature between bedtime and the early hours, use layers to add/remove as necessary 👍🏼

Don’t forget, all babies are different and you know your baby best. It’s better for them to be cool and add layers, than be too hot. Trust your gut Mama, you got this 🧡

Swipe ➡️ for my summary on baby nests and pods 🪹🫛

Whether you choose to use one or not, it’s really important that you know the safety guidelines and recommended use of these products ✅

I, personally, found them super helpful, just make sure you give your baby plenty of free floor play and never use a pod or nest for sleep 💤

Young babies DO NOT like to be away from you, so it makes sense that they rarely like to be put down on a mat for tummy time 😭

The good news is, there are some great ways to do tummy time that do not involve your baby being on their own on a mat…

✅ Reclined chest to chest
✅ Over your shoulder
✅ Tiger in a tree hold

Make sure you’re practicing tummy time little and often to optimise development 💪🏼

I always say that prevention is better than cure, therefore it’s important to be aware of the risk factors of plagiocephaly 👶🏼

If you are pregnant or have a little one, it’s also worth knowing some of the positional treatments to implement if needed 💪🏼

Keep a close eye on your little one and if you notice a head turn preference or flat spot evolving- jump into preventative and treatments straight away ✅

Early intervention is key 🔑

If your little one is over 6 months or has a more marked plagiocephaly or head turn preference, it’s best to see a paediatric physio as soon as possible to prevent secondary issues ⏰
