Working in SEN spaces requires patience, understanding, and flexibility - our dogs and humans are experts at providing exactly that 🐾💛

Pause with Paws sessions can be designed to support children and young people with Special Educational Needs through calm, choice-led, and trauma-informed animal-assisted wellbeing.

Our sessions:
• Allow children to engage at their own pace
• Support emotional regulation and sensory needs
• Encourage confidence, connection, and trust
• Include quiet observation - sometimes just watching is enough
• Optional education about how dogs can help us

Dogs offer non-judgmental presence, consistency, and calm, helping feel safe, seen, and supported.

Whether it’s a school, community group, or a one-on-one session, Pause with Paws provides gentle, enriching moments that build emotional and social wellbeing 💛

Our dogs have been helping provide wellbeing sessions to SEN children since they were pups and it’s truly magical what the do ❤️

🐾 Meet Rosie 🐾

Rosie is our 3-year-old long-haired Chihuahua, and truly one of the gentlest souls you could ever meet 🥹

She has the most beautiful, calm temperament and loves nothing more than curling up into a tiny squirrel-ball on someone’s knee 🐿️💗

From the moment she was a puppy, Rosie showed a natural gift for supporting human wellbeing. She seems to just know when someone needs a little extra love, comfort, or quiet companionship.

Over the years, she’s helped support many people, including autistic children, the elderly and the chronically ill, simply by being her soft, reassuring self. No pressure. No expectations. Just presence, warmth, and unconditional love.

Rosie reminds us that healing doesn’t always need words - sometimes it looks like a tiny dog, a warm lap, and a moment of feeling safe 🤍

If you or someone you support would benefit from gentle, dog-assisted wellbeing sessions, we’d love to hear from you 🤍

Pop us a message, comment below, or follow along to learn more about how Rosie and the rest of the team support human wellbeing - one cuddle at a time 🐾

Fridays visit to a local adult day centre really reminded me why we started Pause with Paws 💛

Our initial visit almost didn’t happen, as one of the service users has a severe phobia of dogs. Even passing a dog in her wheelchair can be very distressing for her.

We worked together with the staff and agreed that we would keep the dogs close and fully supported at all times, so she could feel completely safe.

The centre itself is absolutely beautiful - it has a sensory room, hall space, conservatory, and even a hydrotherapy pool. Such a lovely, calm environment.

As we walked around discussing how future sessions could work, some of the service users were really keen to interact with the dogs. The smiles on their faces were just lovely to see. And the staff were besotted.

But the most special moment came later…

While we were sitting in the office chatting with staff, the service user who was frightened of dogs slowly wheeled herself closer to the room. Eventually she sat in the doorway where she could see both dogs.

At first she was nervous, but after a few minutes she was laughing and smiling, just watching the pups sitting on our laps. She took a real liking to Lexi, our little Pom pup in training 🥹 she looks just like a teddy 🧸

It was such a gentle, natural moment - no pressure, no expectations - just choice, safety and curiosity.

We also discussed with the activities coordinator that they’d love future sessions to include some dog education, which I’m really excited about.

I can’t wait to return for our first full session. Visits like this remind me just how powerful calm, supported animal interaction can be 💛🐾

January has been a really positive month for Pause with Paws Wellbeing 🐾

We’ve delivered dog-assisted wellbeing sessions at two new care homes, both of which have been incredibly rewarding and well received by residents and staff 🫶
We cannot wait to return 💕

We’ve also visited an adult day centre, and will be returning in February to provide structured dog education alongside therapeutic dog-assisted wellbeing sessions 🐶

It’s been a fantastic month seeing the impact these sessions can have on emotional wellbeing, social connection and engagement 🥹

If you work in a care, education, health or community setting and feel dog-assisted wellbeing could support your service users or staff, I’d love to connect.

📩 Please feel free to message me to discuss
