It’s been a long 16 weeks but I’m so pleased to be looking forward to the end of lockdown and reopening Facial Aesthetics. This time has taught me so many lessons and reminded me how much I have to be grateful for in my life and my business. Now is a good time to reflect on this as we look forward to the manic weeks and months that greet us on the other side of reopening. It’s time for me to put together my gratitude list, and it would be wonderful if anyone else wanted to do the same to spread some positivity on Facebook. Warning - it’s a long list! Would you believe that having my business closed actually brought me the opportunity to become closer to other business owners? Well, I have to say how thankful I am to have gotten to know or know better fellow aesthetic practictioners/owners - Jay, Tony, Daniel, Anna, Juliette, Raquel, Christine, Davina, Jane - you are among these and our many calls have kept me going on several occasions over the last few months! I can’t mention these colleagues without saying thank you to Pam and Adam, the matriarchal and patriarchal figures to so many of us in this industry. Where would I be without you gurus to turn to even whilst you were dealing with your own challenges. Then of course I have my team. Sam, you furthering your knowledge and working on your Level 4 has been an inspiration. Hannah, you are my wing woman, right hand, and second brain all at once and I couldn’t be without you. And Matthew, you never fail to be my rock - calm, resilient, and tenacious. Thank you for never letting me lose it! Of course Théa wouldn’t want me to write a post like this without mentioning her, so thank you sweetie for helping me to get out of my head and reconnect with my lovely surroundings. My gratitude continues thanks to amazing colleagues in the industry who have recognised how much I have to contribute. It’s wonderful to work with you now and in the future, Danny, Gemma, Becky, Rebecca, Roisin, and Rachel. I’m excited for what’

We were very disheartened Friday evening when the government released new legislation stating that premises which provide “services including cosmetic, aesthetic and wellness treatments” must remain closed for a few more weeks. We now have a lack of clarity from our governing bodies and also our insurance providers on how far this extends. Whilst we offer medical treatments, I feel uncomfortable opening the clinic until I have assurance that we're working within government guidelines. After being completely ready to reopen this morning with policies, procedures, paperwork and PPE in place to ensure a completely safe patient experience, Friday’s last-minute news came as a shock to us and we spent Saturday calling our patients who were booked in for the start of this week. Now we sadly have to announce to all of our patients that we are staying closed for just a little bit longer. At the end of the day this is all about protecting public health and keeping everyone safe. We hope to gain more information this week, and the government has advised that the legislation will be reviewed on the 28th of this month. So, this calls for a big thank you in advance for your patience and your loyalty. We’re so eager to see you in clinic again and offer the treatments we’ve all been eagerly awaiting for the last couple months - after all, it will only be a few more weeks before we can see you again! We’ll be contacting patients individually in advance of their appointments and will be working extended hours when we do reopen to make sure we can accommodate every single one of our lovely patients who wants to be seen for treatment. In the meantime, if you’d like to be added to the list for an appointment, if you need any skincare, or even if you’d just like to chat, please don’t hesitate to contact the clinic. Remember I am still here for virtual consultations or advice. 🙏 Warm wishes, Julie

I gave TikTok a try! What do you think? Go easy on me please. 😬 The Dr Levy R3 Cell Matrix mask is my new favourite product and I had to find a quick way to share it with all of you because it will make your skin feel like velvet after using it for 30 minutes or even overnight. RRP £70, please message me or comment if you’d like to order one.

Washing your hands for 20 seconds multiple times throughout the day - it’s incredibly important for preventing the spread of disease, but also potentially a contributing factor to ageing hands. So how do we combat this? When hand cream isn’t enough, Profhilo can be injected to the hands to increase their hydration and make the skin look younger and healthier. It’s a fantastic treatment we expect to be doing lots of when we reopen! How have your hands been during lockdown? NOTE: Our patient’s left hand has been treated in the video whilst right hand has been left untreated to show difference in results. This is one week post treatment and results will continue to improve with time particularly after the second treatment, before requiring further treatment in 6-8 months time.

Let’s play 2 Truths and a Lie with our amazing medical aesthetician Sam! Can you guess which two are true and which one is the lie? * She worked and lived in the Caribbean * She travelled the world on cruise ships also working as an aesthetician * She qualified in Beauty Therapy in the early 2000s Watch our ‘Meet Sam’ video to find out… Sam’s knowledge and dedication to getting skin healthy is immense and any patients who have been to see her for a Hydrafacial or other treatment know what a difference just one treatment with Sam can make to their skin. To be added to her waiting list for appointments once we reopen, email [email protected]

Meet your practitioner: Julie Scott RGN NIP
How do you know who you can trust? As I mentioned in my last video you should always ask about your practitioner’s qualifications. So we made a little video detailing mine. Can you believe I first qualified in 1992! 😮 Hannah’s editor note: Julie undersold herself a little here as she founded Facial Aesthetics in 2003 and has been doing treatments like toxin, fillers and thread vein removal since! The last seven years have seen Facial Aesthetics in a permanent and beautiful private countryside location that Julie hopes her patients love as much as she does.

With the industry changing so much, I feel the need to point out that when choosing a practitioner for your aesthetic treatments it is important to look for a few key things: 1. Are they qualified? Remember, certain treatments such as those involving injections should only be carried out by a doctor, nurse, or dentist. You can research practitioners and check that they are registered with the appropriate regulating body such as the GMC or NMC. 2. Do they have indemnity insurance? You can ask to see proof of this. Mine is displayed in clinic. 3. Are they offering you different treatment options? 4. Are all possible side effects and complications discussed with you at consultation? 5. Have you been given time to reflect? A practitioner should never pressure you into treatment. 6. Are you happy and comfortable with the practitioner? You’ll need to trust them when you place your face and looks in their hands! If you’d like more information on this, or even on me as a practitioner, don’t hesitate to get in touch. My inbox is always open ➡️ [email protected]

Have you ever wondered about all the different Vitamin A products on the market, which one you need, and what the difference is? Our Strategy for Rebooking Appointments
In case you missed our post the other day, here is a helpful video explaining what our strategy is for reopening and how we will approaching getting all our lovely patients booked back in as quickly as possible.

Last up in Frequently Asked Questions week... The very common and reasonable question of cost. However, in my opinion your choice of treatment and practitioner should never come down to cost. It should be something to be considered, but never the #1 concern. What should come first? Your practitioner's experience, the quality of the products being used, and your suitability to the treatment to start. Please watch my video on why I run my practice this way and what other questions you should ask a practitioner in addition to "what is the price?" On that note, what do you think of the phrase 'you get what you pay for'?

FAQ #3 - What if it goes wrong?
Will I bruise? What might go wrong? Are there side effects? These are VALID questions that I always welcome in consultation. A detailed, in-person conversation is had before each treatment I perform, with time given to my patients to go away and reflect. Never be afraid to ask questions, and you don't have to be afraid of treatments either!

New patients tend to ask me this question in many forms - will I look weird? Frozen? Fake? My answer is you don't have to worry - let me explain why. #facialaesthetics #toxin #faq

Teen Skin Blog with Théa
My beautiful Théa ❤️ I am so proud of her for wanting to help her peers and share the little gems of wisdom she's picked up over the years. Théa's blog will be up on our website this Friday and I will be posting more helpful content throughout the week. What would you or your teenaged children and loved ones like to know about skin?

How Menopause Affects Your Skin
Wow! So many of my patients enjoyed last week's webinar by Aestheticare all about menopause and how it affects the skin. So, I decided to do a bit of a roundup video on the most important things to know about this time in a woman's life. If you have any questions or want to know more, let me know in the comments or by contacting the clinic: [email protected]

How my NEWA has helped me stay sane lately
I've realised these past couple weeks how much my self-care routine helps me feel normal. I like putting on makeup or choosing a nice outfit most days, these little things make me feel more human. But being me of course I have a big focus on aesthetics in my routine too. 😉 So I wanted to talk to you about my NEWA (a home-use skin tightening device using the same technology as Endymed) because it's been really helpful to me in terms of keeping a routine, keeping up my confidence and providing some 'me time' every day. I know times are tough so I'm not trying to sell anything, just trying to share what makes me feel good lately. I'd love to hear what you've been doing to feel good too. 😊

Clapping for the NHS last night was really moving and I want to do something else to say thank you. We have a box full of goodies here and would love to send it to someone working hard on the front lines to overcome this virus. I need help deciding who to send it to so if you would like to say thank you to someone and send them this gift box please feel free to share their story or tag them in the comments. I wish I had hundreds of these but I only have one and would love to send it to someone who could really benefit from these lovely skin-hydrating products.

Remote Consultations via WhatsApp, Skype, and Zoom
How is everybody holding up this week? I just wanted to let all my existing patients know that I am here for virtual/remote consultations. I don't want anybody to feel helpless when it comes to their skin and I also don't want any of my patients to feel lonely at home. Is there anyone who would be interested in setting up a Skype or Zoom consult with me?

🎉Time for a giveaway🎉 We’re trying to brighten spirits with a giveaway of a LUNA Play Plus! Watch the video for T&Cs (which are at the very end)

Time to kick off my shoes and reflect on the past week... I’m choosing to remain positive. What are your thoughts?

Sharing positivity in times of uncertainty
Sending you positive energy. 💖 Times are uncertain but what needs to be spread is correct information and positivity, not fear and panic. We’ll be posting more self-care content over the coming weeks to keep open lines of communication and advice with our patients. Watch this space... 👀 Also, as we remain open, we’re prioritising the health of our patients and sanitisation of our clinic as always. However, we’re also taking other precautions which I explain in this video and our previous post. For those of you who may need a little encouragement to stay positive, I’m here to help however I can. Julie x

Breaking Down Myths Around Botulinum Toxin
"Interestingly, it's one of the treatments that patients come in and are most afraid of. But it's also often the one treatment that they go on and continue to have done, because of the natural results that we can achieve." As a safe, medically qualified injector with 17 years experience, I know all the concerns around this treatment and how to make sure we avoid them. The video below will answer all your questions if you are considering this wonderful treatment, but please book in for a consultation so we can discuss how to tailor botulinum toxin injections to you.

How to PERMANENTLY remove threadveins
If you suffer with those pesky little red thread veins on your face, hands, or upper body, this video will tell you everything you need to know about the best way to remove them: Thermavein. Julie Scott, nurse prescriber and clinical director of Facial Aesthetics, tells you all about thread veins, what they are, how Thermavein/Veinwave works, and what is probably the number one most frequently asked question - does it hurt? If you have any questions for Julie please comment below!
