Writing about your emotions reduces brain threat activity (fear). In fact some argue the best way through depression is to get creative.

Therapists say so...
Science says so...
Creativity says so ..

Take the power back and write it down ✍️ ✍️

Putting feelings into words does more than help you reflect. Brain imaging research shows it can shift activity inside emotional circuits.

The amygdala is often described as the brain’s threat detector. It helps you quickly respond to stress and uncertainty. When emotions feel intense or overwhelming, this region can become more active.

Studies using brain scans have found that labeling emotions — even briefly — is associated with reduced amygdala activity and increased engagement of the prefrontal cortex. The prefrontal cortex supports planning, reasoning, and self-regulation. In simple terms, writing about emotions appears to shift processing from automatic emotional reactivity toward more deliberate control.

Expressive writing research, including randomized controlled trials, suggests that structured emotional writing can reduce rumination and improve psychological well-being over time. When experiences are translated into language, the brain organizes them differently. What felt chaotic becomes structured, stored, and easier to reflect on.

This does not mean writing erases stress. It means the act of labeling feelings recruits regulatory networks that help the brain process emotional information more efficiently.

Even brief writing sessions have been linked to measurable changes in emotional processing patterns.

"Is fheàrr fheuchainn na bhith san dùil.”

It’s better to try than to remain hoping / It’s better to attempt than to just expect.

This is your mid week nudge to get out of your comfort zone. One of the best ways to deal with anxious thoughts is to take an action. This saying is talking about agency. Finding a way to interrupt rumination or anxious thinking through activity and agency can help with our whole being. Moving your body, making a call, trying a different approach. Any action, big or small. It's up to you.

Even a small step can ease feelings of helplessness. We don't have to have everything figured out but action can precede motivation and help us feel better.

Is fheàrr fheuchainn na bhith san dùil -feel the fear and do it anyway 🙌

What she said ...

We’re all the villain in someone’s story, whether we’re the ‘idiot’ who cut someone up at a roundabout; the ‘b*tch’ who left an ex unrequited & bereft; the ‘mean' parent who misjudged their child, or a 'careless' employee who made a bad call and cost her boss money.

People's experiences of us are valid & their own - fed through the lens of past relationships & situations, and informed by accumulated hopes & fears. Your ability to control how others see you is more limited than you might think. How ever well-intentioned, benevolent and good your heart is, you aren’t perfect & you can't always predict how your actions will pan out or how they will will land with others.

At times you WILL be to blame, so you accept your lumps, you learn & grow. At other times you will be unfairly maligned - when that happens, you might as well roll with the punches and allow people to see you as they need to, even if their image of you is unflattering and inaccurate.

YOU know who you are, what you intend and how you carry yourself in this life. People may call you names, spin a tale about your intent and speculate as to your character but just because someone judges you harshly it doesn't make their assessment true.

I've been cast in the role of villain from time to time and these days I'm cool with it.

How about you?

Not every day is good, but there is usually something good in every day.

On this good day I flagged down a driver who was speeding by with a bacon roll on the roof of their car.

I mean it would be rude not to 😂😋
