We’re living in a time where emotional reactivity is often given more weight than objective truth. Many have been conditioned to believe that if something makes them feel uncomfortable, then it must be rejected, either as incorrect or oppressive. Instead of engaging in meaningful dialogue, the default response has become to label, dismiss, or silence anyone who challenges the dominant emotional narrative.

This is what happens when a society loses its grounding in deeper principles. Without a strong sense of self or a framework of inner integrity, people become easily destabilised by differing opinions. They mistake discomfort for harm, disagreement for hate, and accountability for attack.

In reality, truth isn’t something that conforms to our feelings. It stands on its own. While it may sometimes feel like a sharp knife, it always makes a clean cut.

A mature, integrated person can hold space for their emotions and for truth. They can experience discomfort without needing to shut down the source of it. But when an entire society lacks that level of maturity, it turns to control and leads to shaming, labeling, and silencing because it cannot bear to sit with anything that challenges its fragility.

Shadow Work or Shadow Empowerment

Shadow work is a popular topic in modern day personal development, and involves exploring unconscious behaviours and beliefs to understand their impact on our lives.
While delving into the origins of these patterns can be insightful, it’s not always necessary to unearth the ‘why’ or root cause of everything to create change.

Once an unconscious pattern is brought to awareness, it’s no longer hidden in the shadows.
The new awareness can empower one to consciously choose alternative responses or actions, thereby disrupting habitual reactions.
By consistently opting for different behaviours, the old patterns gradually disappear due to lack of reinforcement.

Of course, some deeply entrenched patterns may require a more involved exploration to fully understand and address their roots.
However, with practice, many can be broken by consciously refraining from engaging in them.
This approach allows a person to stay present as the roots are dissolved through starvation, instead of endless sifting and digging through the woundology of the past.

After all, the past is just a story being told in the present.
Many end up only empowering the shadow further as they get lost in the story of what was.

Amazingly the ‘why’ will often reveal itself naturally anyway, once the space has been created.

Many are talking about the need for honesty and authenticity in the world today, but will recoil or get their back up when the sword of truth cuts through their own illusions.

So are we really ready for what we are asking for, or do we still need to put feelings before truth and let emotions get in the way of reason and logic?

Push too much against the ego and it becomes near impossible to get any clarity.
