🎄 At Valley Care, the festive season starts a little differently…

While most people are planning cosy nights, Christmas markets, and food shopping…
our teams are already preparing the visits, the support, and the winter shifts that keep people safe at home.

This is the time of year when calendars fill fast, phones get busier,
and everyone starts working out how to balance family, rest, and responsibility.

Yet every December…
you always find a way to put people first.

✨ To the coordinators piecing together complex rotas with patience and care
✨ To the managers who step in, support, and steady the team
✨ To the carers who brave the cold, the early mornings, and the late nights
✨ To every person who goes the extra mile so someone else can have a peaceful Christmas…

You make a difference in ways most people will never see but we see it.
And we appreciate you.

Before the presents, before the parties, before the glitter…
this moment is for recognising the dedication behind the scenes.

So here’s to you —
the calm in the chaos,
the steady hands,
the hearts of Valley Care and Care Santé.

If your December has officially switched to “festive madness,” drop a 🎅 below.
And tag someone who deserves a little Christmas appreciation this year. 🎁💛

Today Marks the first day of National Grief Awareness Week. Everyone has either been or know somwonw that has been effected by loss.

Please always practise kindness and patience and compassion 💚

💛 Did You Know? Grief Isn’t Linear

Grief is a deeply personal experience — and it never follows a straight line. People may move back and forth between different stages, skip some entirely, or feel several at once. All responses are valid.

Here are some common stages of grief and how they may show up:

🌀 Denial

A sense of shock or numbness.
People may struggle to accept what has happened or feel emotionally disconnected.

🔥 Anger

Anger may be directed at a situation, oneself, others, or even the person who has passed.
It often reflects the pain underneath.

🤝 Bargaining

Thoughts like “If only…” or “What if…?”
People may replay events, wish they’d done something differently, or search for meaning.

🌧️ Depression

Feelings of deep sadness, withdrawal, overwhelm, or exhaustion.
This stage often brings the reality of the loss into sharp focus.

🌿 Acceptance

Not about “moving on,” but learning to live with the loss.
Acceptance can look like finding moments of peace, adjusting routines, or reconnecting with daily life.

💬 A gentle reminder

👉 People don’t pass through these stages in order.
👉 They may revisit stages many times.
👉 There’s no “right” way to grieve.

💙 Emotional Abuse: Understanding the Signs & Speaking Up

Emotional abuse isn’t always visible — but its impact can be just as damaging as physical harm. Adults with care and support needs may be especially vulnerable, and recognising the signs early can make a huge difference.

Emotional abuse can include:
• Persistent criticism, humiliation or blame
• Intimidation, threats or coercion
• Controlling behaviour (who someone sees, where they go, what they do)
• Gaslighting or manipulating someone’s reality
• Isolation from friends, family or community
• Withholding affection or communication as punishment
• Making someone feel scared, worthless, or dependent

Possible signs someone may be experiencing emotional abuse:
• Becoming unusually withdrawn, anxious or fearful
• Sudden drop in confidence or self-esteem
• Avoiding certain people or seeming nervous around them
• Behaviour that seems “on edge” or overly apologetic
• Changes in communication or mood
• Being pressured to make decisions against their wishes
• Reluctance to speak when a particular person is present

Emotional abuse can be subtle — but it is never acceptable.

If you’re concerned about yourself or someone else, speaking up can protect you or others.

Scams and financial abuse affect vulnerable adults more than you might think.
A friendly chat, a too good to be true offer, a pressure to sign something these could be red flags.
Stay safe contact the police or the fraud team if you suspect you or someone you know maybe being subject to exploitation 💚

Did you know Self-neglect and hoarding can sometimes signal a safeguarding concern? It’s not about judgement, it’s about support and understanding. If someone’s life is compromised by unsafe conditions, we can help you act. You’re not alone.

If you or someone you know is effected you can refer to fire and rescue services and to your local adult social services team for further support and resources 💚
