Did you know that ....
Research is showing that striving too hard for happiness can actually make people less happy. That is some food for thought isn't it?
"The problem is when happiness becomes an obligation, a performance, or a personal KPI. The science is pretty clear: when we demand constant happiness, suppress anything that doesnโt fit the script, and judge ourselves for feeling human, we pay for it โ with our bodies, our minds, and our relationships" (OMF)
With regular practice, Mindfulness can teach us to acknowledge and accept our whole experience, including pleasant and challenging emotions and feelings in our daily lives. We simply start by noticing what is here.
Being more happy is not the goal. The only practice is to be present with openness, kindness and acceptance. Happiness is understood to be a side effect of practicing mindfulness.
So, instead of planning for happiness, maybe all we need to do is practise the things that have been shown to help us be more grounded, more present, more real, more safe.
