The funny thing about happiness is that it seems to happen when we are focussed on something other than happiness, I think the more we pursue it, the more elusive happiness becomes.

I have noticed that the people who are happy are the ones who are satisfied with their lot. They don’t appear to over value materialistic achievement or purely seek out hedonistic pleasure.

I think happiness is when a person feels the autonomy to go their own way and do what gives them pleasure and meaning. They stay in good relation to others without intentionally pursuing happiness as the end goal!!

So yes, maybe I can create it, but not if I am focussed on seeking it out!!

Sometimes asking for what we need feels as if we’re making waves, we don’t have to be a non stop people pleaser only attending to everyone else’s needs. Everyone should get the chance to ask for what they need, including you!

The body remembers…. But not just the traumatic and the unbearable hardships, it remembers the good too…. I was thinking this over and over again this weekend.

For the first time in 30 years, I played in goal for my friends hockey team, a position I loved as a teenager. In my early twenties I stopped playing due to injury but never stopped dreaming of one day playing again! Stepping back into the position this weekend, my body just remembered what to do and it felt awesome!

At the end of the game, I hugged my friend, a friend of 40 years! We’ve not seen much of each other over the decades, yet this human has steadfastly been there for me, and my body remembers the safety of this relationship, it remembers the goodness of it!

I kept on reflecting , (after I’d been rolling about on the ground protecting the goals as if my life depended on it), my body has remembered the moves of the game, and in life, it has remembered how to circumvented obstacles, and survive struggles through adversity.

Looking back I can see that my body kept the score; yes it has remembered the traumas and how to triumph over trauma. It also remembered the things that kept me going, love and friendship and how to protect my goals and never give up!

Oooh! Shine the most vibrant dazzling colours (if you want to!). 😊

If ever I hear myself saying ‘and how does that make you feel….’ It makes me feel like a stereotype!
