Today is a big day for our community—the Warwickshire County Council Election is happening right now, and your voice matters. Polling stations are open 7:00 AM to 10:00 PM, so there’s still plenty of time to make your vote count.

The best decisions for our community happen when everyone has a say. I’m not asking you to vote for any particular candidate, only to be a voter.

Thank you.

Many in our community value Brandon Club as a cherished local venue, and I’ve been following the ongoing licensing review with interest.

After writing to Rugby Borough Council to better understand the concerns raised, I got a response acknowledging my input. However, there are still a few key questions that I believe need addressing to ensure a fair and transparent process for everyone involved.

What a wonderful surprise I had at the Brandon Club this past weekend. I walked in to find an 80th birthday celebration, with a visitor showing everyone with his spot-on Elvis impersonation and some brilliant card tricks. But the real highlight for me was a heartfelt conversation with one of the members, who shared his story of resilience and how the club played a crucial role in helping him heal during tough times. Moments like these remind me just how special this place is.

It truly saddens me to hear that Brandon Club’s music license is now at risk due to a licensing review over public nuisance concerns. Music is an important part of this club that brings people together, lifts spirits, and strengthens our community. Losing this vital part of the club would be devastating.
This is why I've written to Rugby Borough Council - not only to highlight the vital role the club plays in our community, but also to ensure all relevant legal considerations are properly taken into account.

Today, the Long Lawford Old Church Yard Group welcomed an incredible influx of volunteers! Everyone pitched in to lay the gravel path. Who would have thought we could complete it in about 30 minutes?

I was privileged to meet my neighbour, Norma Wilson, in today. I see Norma as a true beacon of hope, thanks to her unwavering dedication to supporting children and young people.

As a former foster carer for Warwickshire County Council, Norma fostered more than 130 children and young people. Her compassion extends even further—she is well known for assembling Christmas hampers for over 200 care leavers each year.

Young people leaving care often face immense challenges, including skipping meals and going without heating. Norma’s kindness makes a real difference in their lives, and I hope the community will continue to support her incredible work.

I’ve had the pleasure of visiting Brandon Club several times, and each visit has been thoroughly enjoyable.

Steeped in history, the club was established in 1885 by the trustees of James Beech, a railway magnate. Originally designed as a space for reading, refreshments, and social gatherings, it has evolved into a licensed venue offering snooker, pool, darts, and skittles. The club plays a significant role in offering facilities for local groups to meet, hold Parish Council meetings, support local events, and be a welcoming space for all.

From the moment I stepped inside, I was struck by its welcoming spirit. Places like Brandon Club are more than just buildings—they deliver often missing critical social infrastructure. They create lively, inclusive spaces that foster connection by bringing people together under one roof.

We’re getting the cemetery path ready for graveling at St. John's Chapel in next week as well as making space for more flowers.

As someone new to the Long Lawford Old Church Yard Group, I’ve been amazed by the dedication put into maintaining the cemetery. It’s a quiet, beautiful space with centuries-old gravestones, each one unique and full of history. It’s impossible not to feel a connection to the past while walking among them.

Places like this deserve care and respect. There’s a real sense of peace working here, surrounded by nature and the weathered stones. Plus, it’s nice to be outdoors and active while preserving something meaningful.

Several weeks ago, I met with residents in Bretford and listened to their concerns about the footpath along Brandon Road. Today, I've taken action by formally reporting these issues to Warwickshire County Council Public Rights of Way (PROW) team, and I am pushing for an assessment and accessibility improvements. I'll monitor the council's response closely and keep residents updated on progress. If you've had some trouble with this path, I'd like you to please share your experiences below - your feedback strengthens our case for action.

A few weeks ago, I met a lady in her late 70s at The Ryelands in Long Lawford Village. She and her husband are both unwell, yet every time they need to see their GP, they must pay around £40 for a taxi—because there’s no GP surgery in our village.
Her son works during the day, and with the limited bus service at The Ryelands, they have no other options.

Between 2011 and 2018, Rugby Borough Council designated Long Lawford as a growth area to accommodate housing demand. This led to significant expansion in our community, most notably through the Bloor Homes construction project. We have to ask: who has Long Lawford been changing for? While smaller villages like Dunchurch and Wolston have their own GP surgeries, Long Lawford still has none despite being 39.6% larger than Dunchurch and 55.4% larger than Wolston (2021 Census, TS001).

This isn’t just an inconvenience—it’s an unjust disparity that leaves elderly and vulnerable residents struggling to access their GP. That’s why today, I’ve formally raised this issue with Rugby Borough Council(RBC) and NHS Coventry and Warwickshire Integrated Care Board, requesting answers and action. Our community deserves fair access to GPs—just like our neighbouring villages.

If you’ve faced similar challenges, share your story below. Together, we can push for change.

Today, while visiting Brinklow Waterside & Marina, I had to stop my car because I was saddened by the sight of fly-tipped waste by Cathiron Lane. The owners of Acorn House Kennels say this happens a lot. It’s us (taxpayers!) who foot the cleanup bill.

Visit https://www.rugby.gov.uk/w/fly-tipping to report incidents of fly-tipping to RBC. If you witness fly-tipping, especially if it involves hazardous waste, report it to the police immediately by calling 999 or 101.

💡 Two simple fixes could help:

1️⃣ Install CCTV or hidden cameras to catch dumpers in the act
2️⃣ QR code tracking for waste carriers—no proof of legal disposal = no payment

I’ll be pushing the council to take action. Shouldn’t our money go to better things than cleaning up after illegal dumpers?

👍 Like & share if you’re fed up with fly-tipping too!

A week later, the Long Lawford Old Church Yard Group has made even more progress, clearing dense overgrowth at St. John’s Churchyard. I had my first go with a cordless strimmer. My mission? Clear the overgrowth without accidentally turning the wildflowers into confetti. A few close calls, but the flowers survived—mostly. Later this month, we aim to complete the path by laying pea gravel. But we need your help! Please contact the Long Lawford Old Church Yard Group if you'd like to join our efforts. Every volunteer makes a difference!
