Winter – Yin time.
I’ll be honest, I used to HATE winter. The early, dark nights, feeling cold all the time, flu-season, not wanting to go out due to the weather. Then, something changed. I started embracing it instead. In Chinese medicine we refer to the winter months as being a ‘yin time.’ It’s our chance to nourish and nurture ourselves before spring comes. This is time to reflect, rest and recuperate. Don’t feel hard on yourself for not wanting to go out and do lots of things!!
During this time, I recommend people to make sure to have broths and warming soups which will help nourish yin. If you have a dry, tickly cough, having stewed pears cooked in ginger and cinnamon. Definitely making sure your neck is protected when out in the cold weather this is because acupuncture point called GB 20 which refers to Wind Gate, which if not protected can let in pathogens in.
