If you’re clocking up the miles for a half marathon, you’ll know it’s not just about fitness and speed, it’s about recovery. That’s where our new sports massage therapist, Aiden Seekings, comes in.

Aiden’s currently training for his own first half marathon, so he knows exactly how tight calves, sore hips and grumpy hamstrings can throw off your stride. His sports massage treatments help keep muscles loose, balanced and ready for the next run.

Sports massage can help with:
🦵 Calf tightness and shin splints
🏃‍♀️ Hamstring and IT band problems
🦶 Achilles or foot pain
💪 Post-training stiffness and fatigue
🧘 Relaxation and improved flexibility

“I know what it’s like to wake up on a Sunday and wonder if your legs will actually move,” laughs Aiden. “A good massage can make all the difference.”

Whether you’re chasing a personal best or just aiming to finish smiling, regular massage during training can help prevent injuries and keep you running strong right up to race day.

If you’ve ever trained for an event or even just pushed yourself a bit too hard on a weekend run, you’ll know how tight calves or sore hamstrings can ruin your stride.

That’s where sports massage comes in. Our new therapist, Aiden Seekings, knows exactly how that feels. He’s just signed up for his first half marathon, so he’s living proof of what regular massage and good recovery can do.

Sports massage isn’t just for athletes though - it can help with:
🏃‍♂️ Running niggles and muscle tightness
💪 Shoulder and neck tension from desk work
🚴 Post-training soreness or fatigue
🦵 Calf, hamstring and IT band pain
🧘 General flexibility and stress relief

Aiden’s approach is practical, supportive and down-to-earth, helping you move better, feel looser, and get back to the activities you enjoy.

Whether you’re chasing a new personal best or just want your body to feel less creaky on Monday morning, a sports massage could be the reset you need.

Weekend news from last weekend - in which we see a spine in a hot chocolate and a rainbow in a horse! 🤔

Jay and Sam visited Birmingham Christmas markets. 🎄🎄🎄

Claire finally managed to take an interesting photo and proved that rainbows come from horses. 🌈 🦄

Acupuncture Magdalena went to an Ed Byrne comedy night and the Ampthill Christmas lights switch on. 🎄🔆

🐾 Magdalena also confirmed that the cat and dog are now officially best friends 🥰

✅ Brooke, Ollie and Gill did one of our first aid courses with osteopath Steven.

Brooke and Aiya also had a trip to Manchester so Aiya could see her Northern family.❤

Danielle, our new foot health practitioner, had a long walk, which ended in a tired dog ❤and some yummy hot chocolates 😍.

Georgina found a hot chocolate looked like a spine and pelvis 😂. She also went to the theatre and checked out the Christmas tree in Covent Garden! 🎄

🎊🎂 Birthday treats in London for Mindfulness Nicola.. art galleries, riverboat, watching England beat NZ at netball and lots of lovely food!

What NOT to do when your sciatica plays up:

Sciatica feels like sharp shooting pain down the back of your leg. It can be mild or like lightening.

The good news is that most sciatica settles and you can do a lot to help it calm down.

Here are a few things to avoid when it first flares. They are simple but they make a real difference.

- Do not freeze in one position.
- Do not sit for hours without moving.
- Do not dive into random stretches you found online.
- Do not panic. Nerves can be noisy but they settle.

Small gentle movements will make the biggest difference. A short slow walk often helps more than complete rest.

If your back is feeling bossy today this carousel is for you.

If you're sick of the pain and want help, we can do that with osteopathy, physiotherapy, sports therapy or IDD treatment. Just call us.

Do you worry that wrinkle relaxants will leave you looking frozen or unlike yourself? Here's an example of how subtle the changes can be.

Claire, our clinic director and one of the osteopaths osteopath, recently had wrinkle relaxants to soften her crow’s feet. She wanted exactly what most people ask for - a gentle refresh, not a dramatic change.

And the results speak for themselves.
Fewer lines, softer edges, still completely Claire. Not flat. Not expressionless. Just a rested version of the face she already had.

Our aesthetics team love to do this sort of gentle transformation to help men and women feel more confident. The aim is for natural movement, natural expression, and nothing that makes you look like you’ve spent the morning in a wind tunnel.

If you’ve ever wondered whether wrinkle relaxants can look subtle, Claire is proof that they can. It is all about good technique, good judgement and a light touch.

🤣🐶 Phew, we were worried for a minute there! Great news for the dog-owning faction of our practitioners. Aiden Brings Two More Dogs to the Ashgrove Pack 🐾

As you know, there’s an ongoing debate at Ashgrove: dogs or cats? For years the dog owners have had the upper hand (with Badger the Dog being our clinic mascot)… then suddenly a wave of kittens arrived and things started to look a bit uncertain.

Enter Aiden Seekings, our sports massage therapist, and proud owner of two Cocker Spaniels. Balance restored. Dog team back on top. Order reinstated.

Aiden’s dogs are basically part of his training crew. They’ve supervised early morning runs, cheered him on during half marathon training and occasionally insisted on unexpected cool-downs in the shape of some snuggles.

We like to think the running, the dogs and the sports massage expertise all blend together nicely. After all, anyone who’s ever tried to keep up with a happy dog knows the value of flexible hamstrings.

So please join us in welcoming Aiden, and his two very good dogs, to the Ashgrove family. 🐶🐶
(We fully expect the cat team to respond. Probably with disdain.)

Sound on! Our Clinic director, who is notorious for being rubbish in the kitchen and rubbish with a camera has finally managed to take a video that isn’t out of focus of her elderly orange racehorse.

For no reason whatsoever, well, except that a lot of you are horse riders, we thought you might enjoy it!

Now, which one do you think is the very very naughty?!

Nothing like a good massage to relax your tight muscles, ease your aches and get you back to sport or back to normal activities again.

Don't underestimate how much better you'll feel after a massage, especially if you train hard or work at a desk.

Aiden and Chloe both treat office workers as often as they treat runners, swimmers and those of you who train at the gym. They love a tight muscle and watching the effects of treatment on that muscle!

Knee pain can really get in the way, can't it! Whether you're walking the dog, climbing stairs, even getting up from a chair. Sometimes it’s an old injury that never quite healed; sometimes it’s just wear and tear catching up faster than we’d like.

Physiotherapy can help with all kinds of knee problems, including:
🦵 Arthritis and general stiffness
⚽ Sports injuries such as ligament or meniscus tears
🏃 Runner’s knee and patellar tracking issues
🚴 Overuse injuries from walking, cycling or gym work
⛰️ Post-surgery recovery or joint replacement rehab

Pierre, one of our physios, is brilliant at finding out why your knee hurts. He looks at your movement, muscle balance and posture to build a plan that helps you move better, not just mask the pain.

And he tries to make sure you can incorporate your exercises into your normal daily activities, so you don't have to spend 2 hours doing your rehab!

🎩 Take your hat off to this longtime qualified nurse and aesthetics practitioner. She's a calm genius in a hospital and in a treatment room in our clinic, but she hates being filmed! We were very lucky to catch her on a day when she was prepared to sit for us and help us dispel a few myths about aesthetics. Well done Elaine!

🤔 The differences between fillers and wrinkle relaxants:

People often mix these up, but they do very different jobs.

Wrinkle relaxants calm the small muscles that create expression lines - think frown lines, forehead creases, and crow’s feet. The muscles rest, the skin smooths, and you still look like you, just more relaxed.

Fillers, on the other hand, restore lost volume. They’re great for softening deeper lines, lifting cheeks, reshaping lips or restoring that gentle curve under the eyes.

Relaxants stop the over-movement that causes wrinkles. Fillers replace the structure that’s been lost.

Used together, they can subtly refresh the face, but good practitioners know where to stop.

Prescribing nurse, Elaine, says, "Most of our patients want to look rested, not different,”

“Think holiday face, not new face.” ⛱🙂
