100 years of reminding us that we are not separate from nature, but part of it. Thank you, Sir David, for helping generations slow down, look closer and fall back in love with the living world around us 🌍 🙌
Sea Shepherd Australia wishes Sir David Attenborough a very happy 100th birthday!
For generations, Sir David has brought the wonders of the ocean into our homes, inspiring millions of people to fall in love with the incredible marine life we share this planet with. Since first appearing on television screens in the 1950s, his voice and storytelling have become inseparable from the beauty, mystery, and fragility of our living world.
Australia has played a special role in that journey. It was here, on the Great Barrier Reef, that Sir David first experienced scuba diving - a moment he would later describe as one of the most vivid memories of his life.
“The first time I put on scuba gear and dived on the coral reef is the moment I remember most vividly. Suddenly, this amazing world with a thousand things you didn’t know existed is revealed right in front of you, all wonderful colours and shapes.”
From the Reef in Australia to the deepest ocean of the world, Sir David’s incredible documentaries have connected humanity to the ocean in a way few others ever have, and his latest documentary, Ocean with David Attenborough, is another breathtaking reminder of the majesty and fragility of our seas — showcasing not only the beauty of the ocean, but the urgent need to protect it for future generations.
Many of the documentary’s scenes were filmed by Silverback Films aboard Sea Shepherd Global’s vessels Age of Union and Allankay during campaigns in Antarctica and West Africa. Film crews joined Sea Shepherd to document critical frontline conservation work — exposing the destructive krill fishery in Antarctica and confronting industrial trawlers threatening artisanal fishing communities along the Liberian coast.
Through decades of storytelling, advocacy, and unwavering passion for the natural world, Sir David Attenborough has inspired people across the globe to care more deeply for our precious blue planet and to fight for its future.
“If we save the sea, we save our world.” — David Attenborough
Happy 100th Birthday, Sir David ,and thank you for a lifetime spent defending and celebrating life on Earth. đź’™
