A slightly different week for me! I’ve been doing an attachment with PC Martin, which if that wasn’t good enough (he can make me a brew later for that), it means I get to see PD Kyra and PD Marlow all week! 🐕
It’s nice to do some work with other departments and see what they do. These dogs are an integral part of the island team and PC Martin ensures they’re in tip top health, along with daily training to keep them skilled and interested.
PD Kyra is a general purpose dog. Her role is (and not limited to!) to track people - those who run from Police, Missing People etc, locate discarded property, building searches, deal with public order scenarios and she is also a fi****ms support dog.
PD Kyra is trained to bite, yes it will hurt and no you won’t win 🫣 if you hear a Police Officer tell you they have a dog, I would listen and not try to run off…
PD Marlow is a victim recovery dog. His role is to search for human remains, blood etc. I’ve seen him training with PC Martin and he can locate the smallest amount of blood that’s almost invisible to the naked eye.
Both PD Kyra and PD Marlow work alongside the other teams on the island to keep you all safe. I know you all love a dog picture so I’ve attached one of them both from their walk this afternoon.
