I cannot stress enough how important a creative outlet is when dealing with a mental illness.
~ if you cannot draw; get a colouring book
~ if you cannot write; journal
~ if you cannot sing; listen to music
~ if you cannot dance; move your body - walk - run - yoga.

Sometimes our thoughts and emotions feel like a heavy weight, a dark presence is looming in our body.
You have to take hold of the pain and give it a place to live that’s not within your body. Let it live in art, let it live in writing, let it live in music, let it live in movement;

Ah what a lovely Autumnal day with new clients starting in the studio🌳
Many clients are doing a mix between online and face to face, whatever works best for them/you (or even home visits 🙏🏼).
~ Do you incorporate any mobility work into your days/week?

Yoga does not transform the way we see things, it transforms the person who sees. Yoga is not for the flexible, it’s for the willing. Yoga takes you into the precise moment, the only place where life exists. It’s not your history but your presence on the mat that matters. Yoga is nothing about self-improvement but self-acceptance.

The most important pieces of equipment you need for doing yoga are your body and your mind. Yoga teaches you how to listen to your body. Bend, so that you don’t break. Calming the mind is yoga, not just standing on your head. In yoga obstacles do not block the path, they are the path. 1. Sit comfortably
2. Set a timer for 5 minutes
3. Close your eyes
4. Soften your jaw and forehead, relax your shoulders
5. Just Breathe 🧘🏻‍♀️
Notice: how does it feel? Slow or fast? Deep or shallow? Be come aware of your belly and chest as they rise on your inhale, fall on your exhale. Don’t force it, just your natural breath.
6. Just keep focussing on the inhale/exhale, the rise/the fall. If thoughts come - let them go and bring it back to the inhale/exhale. The rise/the fall.
6. Keep doing this until your timer ends.
~ Et voila! You have just meditated 🙌🏼

Do this everyday OR any time you are feel stressed, anxious, angry, upset.
There will be easy days and there will be hard days. Enjoy the easy days and know that with the hard days you can try again tomorrow.
Go easy on yourself.

This is just 5 minutes out of your day...... try it! Over time, maybe increase your timer.

Health is more than what you are eating. It is what you are thinking, saying and believing.
Whilst the body benefits from movement, the mind benefits from stillness. Nowadays people crave peace and quiet then when they get it, they become restless, anxious and reach of the nearest screen.
Sitting in stillness, in peace with nothing but your own thoughts is not as easy as it sounds. People often try meditation and give up as they get frustrated with their wandering mind. But being aware that your thoughts are wandering and bringing them back IS meditation. It’s controlling your thoughts so they do not control you. It takes time. The brain is a muscle, it needs training. You wouldn’t run a marathon tomorrow with no training, meditation is no different. It takes time to flex the muscle.
Patience.
Feel the feeling but don’t become the emotion.
Witness it.
Allow it.
Release it.

In other words, let your thoughts come & let them go. Breathe.
You are not your thoughts.

‘It’s not all in your head. It’s all in your heart. It’s all in your feet. It’s all in your hips. It’s all in your shoulders. It’s all in your breath. It’s all in your body. Anything unattended to, unresolved, unhealed and unprocessed lives in your tissues, your cells, your musculature. It may manifest in your thinking but it doesn’t begin there. The mind does not source itself - the body does. The trick is not to shift your thinking from within your mind itself. You can’t. You maybe able to suppress it but you won’t be able to resolve it. Because the troubling thoughts are merely a symptom of the deeper issues. They are a reflection of our emotional holdings and constricted musculature. They emanate from the fleshy trauma tunnels that we dug in order to survive this world. Many of us sit in the waiting room of our awakening for decades, waiting impatiently for our new birth. Yet it never arrives, because we are looking for it where it isn’t - within the mind, itself. Babies aren’t born that way. You have to go down into the depths of the body to bring a new birth to life. Down, down, down.... into the alchemical chambers of new thought - YOUR MAGNIFICENT BODY.
This is where we are born again.’

Everything bad that happens within our body and our mind is a build up. A back log of stress, strain, worry, anxiety, lack of sleep, lack of nutrition, lack of movement, lack of deep breathing, lack of relaxation, lack of fresh air, lack of saying no.

What is Yin yoga???
It is a slow paced style of yoga, where you hold asanas (postures) for longer periods of time. Yin Yoga is based on the Taoist concepts of yin and yang☯️, opposite and complementary principles in nature🔥❄️.
💙Yin is described as stable, immobile, feminine, passive, cold, and downward moving.
🧡Yang is understood to be changing, mobile, masculine, active, hot, and upward moving. ☀️The sun is considered yang, 🌕the moon yin.
In the body, the relatively stiff connective tissues (tendons, ligaments, fascia) are considered yin, while the more mobile and pliable muscles and blood are called yang. More passive asanas in yoga are considered yin, whereas the more active, dynamic asanas (which we usually practise) are described as yang.
☯️Yin Yoga poses apply moderate stress to the connective tissues of the body—the tendons, fasciae, and ligaments—with the aim of increasing circulation in the joints and improving flexibility. A more meditative approach to yoga, its goals are awareness of inner silence and to "open the heart and invoke the primal self."🙏🏼

💛Last Tuesday evening I felt drawn to teach Yoga Nidra instead of the original meditation class I had planned.

💫What is Yoga Nidra???
Yoga Nidra is a form of guided meditation where you scan the body tapping into a state of relaxed consciousness as the mind settles in a place between wakefulness and sleep.
As a society we are overstimulated as we rely more and more on technology for work, entertainment, distraction and in more recent times a means of connection to family & friends. This means our Sympathetic nervous system is continuously switched on🤯. The high levels of fear, stress and worry we are experiencing, results in even more activity in the prefrontal cortex of the brain.
Too much is linked too increased anxiety, poor sleep and a lowered immune system.

💫What happens in Yoga Nidra?
Yoga Nidra starts with the body in Sivasana. I (or your teacher) then directs you throughout the practise to move your awareness through the different parts of the body, relaxing each part whilst remaining still🙏🏼.
Yoga Nidra relaxes the mind and body at the same time helping to clear out the nerve pathways to the brain. It takes you into a whole other relaxed state.

🌟It is just ONE HOUR out of your day, ONCE A WEEK for you to thoroughly de stress, relax and unwind🌟
