🍁 Ok, it’s officially cosy season. Heating is on. Fluffy songs are out. And as exciting as that is for some, for others, tis the season to feel low.

💙 If this is you, you may be experiencing Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD)- a type of depression that comes and goes in a seasonal pattern. Common symptoms to look out for include tiredness, apathy, low mood and decreased appetite. This is thought to be caused by an interruption to your sleep pattern, an increased production of melatonin (the sleep hormone) and decreased production of serotonin (the happy, energetic hormone).

⛈ Though it’s normal to find it difficult to get up during the winter months, if this is becoming somewhat impossible, this should be a warning sign, and it should be time to see a GP. In the meantime, swipe right for some ways you can minimise symptoms.

Mindful eating is one of those practices that seems so simple but it is such an effective tool for so many reasons ✨

A question I ask every client is “How do you eat?”

Soooo like.. are you sat down? Or running out the door with the kids? or writing emails? And it’s usually something along those lines. No wonder you’re bloated, unsatisfied and hungry 1 hour later. I know we’re all time poor but time is like money - you don’t just find more it’s a matter of how you use it and what you prioritise/value.

So SAVE this post & next time you eat today walk yourself through the checklist and see what a difference it makes! Act like it’s your first or last meal on earth 😝

You do not need to 1) skip lunch 2) sweat more 3) feel guilty for enjoying easter eggs and hot cross buns this weekend. No no no. 🙅🏻‍♀️

Putting foods like these on a pedestal makes them more desirable. Based on habituation theory, when you allow yourself permission, unconditionally, to experience something (i.e easter egg) whenever you want, they become way less of a big deal. No longer the forbidden fruit. When you truly free your food choices, without any hidden agency, you eliminate the urgency to over eat.

Although some bloating is totally normal, suffering with bloating all the time is not.

Here’s the tricky bit 😬 although I’ve listed some here, the causes of bloating are complex and different for everyone.

If you suffer with bloating frequently, try these small changes:

✨ mindful eating. Step away from your desk, take some deep breaths and eat your food slowly and in a calm state. Chew thoroughly too.

✨if your bloating is due to constipation/sluggish bowels, then regular walking, stretching, twisting and yoga can help.

✨instead of 2-3 large meals split your eating up into smaller, more frequent meals.

& most importantly get answers! If your GP has ruled out anything serious, you have more options. Working with a practitioner (like myself) can mean doing functional diagnostic testing where we can investigate any underlying issues such as dysbiosis, SIBO, digestive insufficiency and more. That way you have an action plan bespoke to you. Link in bio to book in a call ☺️

Women’s bodies are magic 😍🌙

There are many ways I support clients in feeling more connected - to food, to nature, to their body and to their cycle. We can become disconnected very easily in today’s world, and my beliefs are this is a major culprit of ill health.

I love combining nutrition science with spirituality/energies when it comes to women’s health. And so when I learnt more about how our cycle is so synced to the phases of the moon, I was in awe 😍

wtf is ‘Intuitive Eating’? 🤔

IE is a framework for helping people get their s**t together around food, body image and movement 🥐⛹🏾‍♀️

Most of us have been on some sort of a diet for as long as we can remember; even if not an ‘official’ diet, the chances are we’ve been avoiding foods we really enjoy, or aren’t eating as much as we really need to feel satisfied 😣🥦

This can lead us into a cycle of restriction and binging or can cause us to feel anxious or stressed about eating in social situations or around certain foods 😟🍕

We spend so much time in our heads, overthinking every food choice, or worrying if we have to ‘make up’ for that cookie by spending hours in the gym, punishing our bodies with exercise we don’t really like 🏃🏽‍♀️

We stress about our bodies and try and manipulate them into being smaller than they want to be - this is exhausting. It takes up so much of our energy that we have little time left to think about the things that are actually important to us 💕🌻

So... IE uses tools to help you get out of your head when it comes to food and your body, and instead tune into and trust the signals your body is sending🌙

An insight into my clinical practice..
. here is just one of the many, many powerful tools & exercises I use in clinic. A lot of clients I work with have a disconnect from their body - years of body bashing, dieting and punishment. We learn together to step into gratitude, respect and nourishment. This exercise can be very difficult (especially part one) and can sometimes feel very intense, so it only comes up when the client is ready. But the result of this experience is magic.. and just one small part of their transformational journey into harmony & freedom 🦋

🌱NEW BLOG POST🍃

Yes basil and oregano and thyme are delicious additions to your meals but did you know they also have therapeutic benefits, too? I’m falling vitamins, minerals, anti-oxidants, anti-viral and anti-bacterial compounds! Herbs are even, in fact, medicines in smaller dosages. Isn’t nature just magic? Or has lockdown insanity got me to me and now I’m hugging rosemary and getting excited over basil?

What do you need to let go of right now? 🍂

I love autumn / it’s my favourite season. Autumn for me is about shedding, releasing and surrendering to shifts and transitions. Plus the cosy blankets and candles and colours 😍🐿🍁

In fact I think seasons in general teach us that we are always transitioning, flowing and growing in life - the cycles of seasons and the cycles of the moon and the cycles in our body and in nature are our teachers, right?

Today I want to let go of:

🍂 my deep feeling of overwhelm - instead I need to breathe and stay present
🍂my resistance - instead I need to sit with acceptance
🍂my desire to escape - instead I need to practice gratitude of where I am

When we let go of what no longer serves us only then can we invite in what does

“Why would the body digest food or repair itself, when it will be someone else’s lunch” - Sapolsky (Why zebras do not get ulcers) 🦓

Are you running around at lunch time doing chores whilst picking at food? or replying to emails with a Pret salad? or grabbing a sandwich on the way to a meeting? 🥴🥯

Any stressful environment or activity puts you in ‘fight or flight’ - in other words, your body thinks you’re being chased by a tiger but really you’re just late to a meeting.

In this state, your body is not ready to digest. The blood flow and energy is elsewhere - so what does that mean? Poor digestion, malabsorption of essential nutrients (hello fatigue), bloating, discomfort, gas, constipation.... you get the idea.. 👎🏻

“Digestion and regeneration occurs when the person feels safe”

When you slow down, sit down and breathe into the belly it’s like a signal to the brain that everything is ok. Rest and digest state 💆🏻‍♀️🍝

Next meal time just gently place a hand on your belly and practice breathing into this space. You should feel the belly rising and falling, not the shoulders or chest.

I'm doolally about dogs, addicted to avocados and a full time day dreamer. I’m a registered Nutritional Therapist and trained health coach and I am dedicated to supporting you in living a wholesome life.

I haven’t always had a good relationship with food. I’ve been fussy, I’ve been picky, I’ve calorie counted and I’ve dieted I’ve been through ups and downs with my health. I know what it can feel like.

Throughout my own personal journey, I have experienced the power and importance of nourishing and loving your body back – not only with good food and movement, but with emotional, spiritual, social and environmental TLC too. I am not only fascinated by the power of food, but also passionate about self care and living a mindful, joyful and playful life.

This journey is still something I work on every day – good health and fulfillment it isn’t a path with an ending. My purpose, and my job as a nutritional therapist, is to help you to on your path too.
