“Blindness is an unfortunate handicap but true vision does not require the eyes”
~ Helen Keller

Thank you to RNIB for hosting another worthwhile training course this week - this time focusing on children and young people 🙏

So often the challenges, barriers and negativities can be seen when it comes to vision loss and sight impairment, yet there are and can be so many possibilities and opportunities to thrive… and this also starts with those who are sighted to have the understanding and approaches to enable this… ✨

Through supporting individuals via ISightCornwall I am grateful for all that I have learnt so far (as well as how regularly shocked I am at the anecdotes of the shortsightedness of those with sight in their reactions and comments)… 👀 Through sharing learning and experiences I hope to continue offering and growing an inclusive practice ✨

We can create a much more accepting and supportive world if we truly want to - a vision that doesn’t require the eyes and where all can benefit… Kindness really does matter and we can all make a difference… 💛 🌙 ✨

“The world is wider than I remembered…” ✨

Invitation to (truly) notice what’s around you…
Why? Because it helps to take your mind away from being consumed with thoughts, worries, ‘to do’ lists, unanswered questions, theories, gossip, ‘what ifs’… 💭

By noticing and focusing, it brings your mind into the present, grounding it in the now… this slowing down allows your thoughts to slow down or pause, gives spaces, lowers stress, increases states of gratitude and fulfilment (and in turn releasing those ‘feel good’ hormones), boosts your wellbeing, and can increase concentration and communication… 🫧

And remember, being more mindful will take practice… Start small and try to incorporate into daily routines so that it feels achievable - and notice (that word is intentionally used!) what benefits it brings you… 🌙 ✨

Make a moment to notice… 👀 🌸 season is here in all its glory… inspired by Japan’s annual Hanami (‘flower viewing’) where blossoms are celebrated and the Spring season is welcomed, the National Trust actively encourages each year to seek out and enjoy blossoms 👏 it might be an ornamental tree in a garden, fruit trees in a park, or the natural clouds of white in hedgerows 👀 🌸 🐝

Why? Because being in and with nature is so beneficial for us! Remember we ARE nature, we intrinsically know that it makes us feel better… it can shift our moods, alter our mindsets, inspire us, detox us, and offer some respite from the chaos… 🌱

…and let’s not forget the ‘watch’ part of Blossom Watch - the rough definition of ‘watch’ is to ‘observe something carefully over a period of time’. So if you’re out and see blossom, don’t rush! Slow down… make a moment to notice… blossoms are here only fleetingly and as Hanami teaches us, it is a reminder to admire and appreciate the moment 🙏 🌸🌙✨

Lessons from nature… 🌷 Inspired by the tulip and a recent visit to Strawberry Fields Farm Shop… 🌷 💐

🌷 patience… tulips are known as ‘patient plants’ because the bulbs have to wait through winter. Showing us that things don’t need to be immediate, and we too can embrace the dormancy and pauses before we grow…
🌷 preparation can be key… often planning, preparing the ground, and creating the necessary conditions in life is needed to achieve a successful bloom…
🌷 growth through hardship… sometimes in life we need to endure the hardships, those long and dark moments (like winter) and keep our faith that lighter times will come…
🌷 resilience… despite their delicate appearance, tulips are pretty hardy flowers that can withstand the weathers. It’s a reminder that we can bend rather than break, and know that we can both be vulnerable and beautiful…
🌷 sometimes less is more… there’s a beauty in simplicity. It doesn’t always need to be complicated or overthought to look and feel radiant…
🌷 pick your moments… so often we can be looking ahead, forgetting about the present or failing to celebrate the now. A tulip can be grown to be picked, to be admired, wondered at and enjoyed. What moment can you pick to celebrate?
🌷 transient… as with all things in nature, there’s a lesson of accepting the transience of life… of making the most of the moments we have and finding ways to embrace the colour and joy before they fade…

🌷 🙏 🌙 ✨

Frondescence… 🌿 🌀 It’s one of my springtime highlights and a favourite glimmer to notice in the hedgerows…

The term ‘frondescence’ means the period of the unfurling of foliage and the process of the plant putting forth leaves… It’s a sign that this season of Spring is full of potential and hope, that new growth is possible and new beginnings can occur when the time and conditions are right… 🌿

The unfurling can also be a vulnerable period and we too can be reminded that emergence and change usually needs to be nurtured, handled carefully, and often slowly… 🌀 There’s something beautiful waiting to be unveiled.

As nature seems to know how to trust herself and her potential, we too can do the same 🙏 We too can unfurl and step into our potential for change and growth. Spring is here, she’s right on time, and so are we… 🌙 ✨

It’s International Day of Happiness (and the Spring Equinox!) 🌞 🙂 May you find joy in your day and happiness in your heart 💛 🌙 ✨

BREAKING NEWS

Scientists have confirmed a global shortage of happiness.

Early estimates suggest reserves are dangerously depleted, with several countries reporting critically low levels of joy, laughter and general good vibes.

Experts say the shortage has been caused by a combination of doom-scrolling, rising bills, endless emails and a sharp increase in eye-rolling and ‘Minor Glumness’.
Leading happiness researcher Dr Andy Cope (known in some circles as “The Dr of Happiness”) issued a statement earlier today.

“Due to modern pressures and global shenanigans, stocks of happiness are running alarmingly low. Some communities are now operating on emergency supplies of sarcasm and biscuits.”

A spokesperson from the Angry Shouty Party called for a large-scale ‘Government Happiness Stimulus Package’, but progress has been slow due to ongoing debates about potholes, taxes and whose turn it is to make the tea.

So Dr Andy is calling for immediate grassroots action. “Rather than waiting for the world to fix itself, individuals can start replenishing the global happiness reserves immediately.”
Andy’s recommended emergency measures include:
• Smiling at strangers (unless you live in London)
• Getting off your chuffin’ phone
• Going outside for a bit
• Being kind for no obvious reason
• Consuming waaaay less news

Dr Andy commented that, “Yes, the world feels serious right now, but please don’t take yourself too seriously.”

Experts believe if just one person in every group decides to lift the mood, the world’s happiness reserves could begin recovering within hours.

Dr Andy concluded the briefing with a direct appeal: “Do your bit for humanity. One small act at a time. That’s how we refill the wellbeing tank.”

Further updates will follow as the situation develops.

In the meantime… please remain calm and deploy joy responsibly.

Spring is almost here… 🌱 even if you haven’t quite noticed it, your body has… you instinctively feel it… your body innately knows the benefits… such as the longer, lighter days, calming into the birdsong (isn’t it just gorgeous at the moment?!), asking (or pulling) you to turn towards and bask in the sun, trying to slow you down to relax into the ray’s warmth… 🌞

On Friday it will be the Spring Equinox (the astronomical equal day - equal night), and currently it’s the Equilux (a nuanced version where we’re already experiencing the equal day-night ratio due to the refraction of light from the sun)… 🌞

So here we are… the turning point of the season and Spring is almost here! It’s been a long, wet, grey winter and if you’ve been challenged by this, you really aren’t alone. Our bodies (if we let them) are naturally in sync with nature - we ARE nature… so if you’re noticing this week to be outside, feeling the sun, enjoying the pops of colour in flowers and blossom, marvelling wildlife, or wanting to get your hands (or feet) on the ground - do so. Your body - and mind - will truly thank you for it 🙏 🌙 ✨
