2026: the year we regularly palpate our horses’ backs 🐴

A quick hands-on check helps catch soreness early, spot saddle fit issues, and keep our horses comfortable, healthy, and moving their best 💙

a quick appreciation for how soft and buttery Buzz’s 🐝 back is 🤩 achieved by LASER therapy, massage and mobilisation exercises

I thought I’d come on here and reintroduce myself, especially as so many of you have joined me since I started my business just over a year ago (wow… that’s gone fast!!).

So hey guys 👋

I’m Grace, I’m 24, and I’m based in South Wiltshire 🇬🇧. I graduated from Writtle University in 2024 after completing a four-year integrated Master’s in Veterinary Physiotherapy.
I’ve been around horses for as long as I can remember, and that love is what pushed me towards a career helping them move, feel, and perform at their very best 🐎

For the last five summers, I’ve worked as a polo groom, which I absolutely adore. I still get my polo fix during the season on the odd weekend ☀️ And speaking of polo… I’m lucky enough to have two ponies of my own —> swipe to see Lala (the chestnut) and Sambuca (the bay). While they both still play (with my boyfriend, not me 😅), Sambuca has proven herself to be a real dressage diva, so my plan is to start competing her BD and maybe even show jumping too!

If you swipe again, you’ll find my little sidekick Bryn 🐶 He comes everywhere with me… although he usually stays in the car on work days because he’s not the biggest fan of horses!

If you’ve made it this far, thank you! I’m so glad you’re here, and I can’t wait to get to know you and your horses better. Here’s to another year of helping horses feel their absolute best 🦄

Let’s talk about LASER therapy…..🔦⚡️

most of my clients will see me use this device but what does it actually do?🧬

Low Level Laser Therapy provides non-thermal, photochemical reaction in the body. To put it simply, this means that light particles (photons) from the LASER are absorbed by a part of the cell called photoreceptors, which, in turn stimulates a cellular response triggering a chain of reactions which ultimately lead to…

🔹reducing inflammation and localised pain
🔹decreasing muscle hypertonicity
🔹promoting microcirculation
🔹supporting cellular repair and collagen production
🔹enhancing tissue quality and mobility

The supporting scientific research suggests it is a great tool to use in cases with

🔹muscle tension
🔹soft-tissue injuries
🔹areas of inflammation
🔹general soreness from work or training
🔹wound healing
🔹arthritic/restricted joints

I often combine LASER therapy with manual release work and targeted stretching/mobilisations to maximise results🦄

I also offer LASER only sessions at a discounted rate 🤩 drop me a message for more info 🌟

Did you know your horse doesn’t have a collarbone? 👀🦄

Instead, their chest is suspended between the front legs by a network of muscles and fascia known as the thoracic sling. With the key muscles being:

🔹serratus ventralis (cervical and thoracic)
🔹the pectoral muscle group
🔹subclavious
🔹trapezius (cervical and thoracic)
🔹Rhomboid
🔹Latissimus Dorsi

The lack of collarbone (clavicle) allows for a larger shoulder range of motion, whilst the musculature acts almost like a natural suspension bridge supporting the trunk between the forelimbs and absorbing impact. 60% of the horse’s weight is carried on the forehand, hence a well conditioned and mobile thoracic sling is vital to a horse’s soundness and ability to perform.

A healthy thoracic sling allows…

✅ The horse lifts through the withers
✅ Moves freely through the shoulders
✅ Stays lighter on the forehand
✅ Carries themselves with better balance and posture

But when it’s weak or restricted…

⚠️ The chest drops between the front legs
⚠️ The forehand becomes heavy
⚠️ Compensations appear through the neck, back, and hind end

As an equine vet physio, one of my goals is to assess and restore healthy thoracic sling function through manual/ electrical release work, postural re-education, and via the prescription of targeted strengthening exercises 🐎💪🏼

Think your horse might be showing some of these signs? Drop me a message and we can discuss what is going on and how physiotherapy can help 🦄
