Hello and welcome to ThePlymouthCounsellor.co.uk

People come for counselling and psychotherapy for a variety of reasons some of which include, personal and professional goals or issues such as; Stress, Anxiety, Abuse, Bereavement, Anger, Panic, Depression, Sexuality, Assault, Self esteem, Relaxation and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Counselling and Psychotherapy can provide an opportunity for you to talk about your feelings in privacy with someone trained to listen and reflect on what is being said. It can enable you to become aware of new choices and ways to resolve problems and lead to greater self-knowledge as well as improve relationships with others. The aim of counselling and psychotherapy is to help the client make sense of what is happening in their lives and to assist and support them in working through their difficulties. Cognitive Behaviour Therapy or CBT stresses the importance of behaving in ways that challenge negative thoughts and unhelpful beliefs. CBT helps you examine some of the beliefs you have about yourself, to see your situation in different ways and to build up coping skills. EMDR works on the unconscious processes of the mind and for full information please see my full website. About me;

I am a BACP Registered & Accredited Counsellor / Psychotherapist and a UKRCP Registered Independent Counsellor / Psychotherapist (United Kingdom Register of Counsellors and Psychotherapists) and although originally from London I spent 8 years in Nottingham where I qualified with an Advanced Diploma in Counselling in 2001. On top of being an Accredited and Registered Counsellor and Psychotherapist I am a fully qualified EMDR practitioner. (Please see the separate information on my website for further details on Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing.) I am a licensed practitioner for Counselling for Depression and a qualified Supervisor offering Clinical Consultation and Case Management for Counsellors, Psychotherapists and other Health Care Professionals. I hold a Post Grad Diploma in Supervision and an MA in Consultation and Supervision. I began my work as a counsellor for an organisation helping people who were suffering financial hardship and moved on from there to work at South Nottingham College as a counsellor working with both the tutors and the students. Upon moving to the South West I started working in GP Practices across Cornwall and Devon and I also began to see clients privately. I continue to work for the NHS in Devon, provide consultation to 3 businesses in Plymouth and to Bristol and Bath University. I hold my in-person private practice in Saltash, Cornwall and work online using Teams or Zoom. I offer emotional and psychological support to clients and supervision to both trainee and qualified counsellors. I also offer consultation to other professionals who would benefit from my approach. I am able to assist clients to clarify and accomplish personal and professional goals and work with them on issues such as stress, abuse, anger, assault, confidence, self esteem, anxiety, bereavement, panic, trauma, s*xuality and relationship issues. I have undergone further training in the areas of:

EMDR - Alexandra Richman EMDR Training, London
Counselling for Depression - NICE, Metanoia Institute, London
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (Centre for Stress Management)
Neuro-Linguistic Programming (INLPTA)
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. (Derby University)
Post Graduate Diploma in Counselling Supervision (CPC)
MA in Consultative Supervision (South Wales Uni)
Transactional Analysis (ITAA)

I attend monthly counselling supervision to monitor my work and I am a professional accredited member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy. I abide by their codes of ethics and practice and am subject to their disciplinary procedure.

- Do you love Me? Alice asked.

- No, I don't love you! replied the White Rabbit. Alice frowned and clasped her hands together as she did whenever she felt hurt.

- See? replied the White Rabbit.
Now you're going to start asking yourself what makes you so imperfect and what did you do wrong so that I can't love you at least a little.

You know, that's why I can't love you. You will not always be loved Alice, there will be days when others will be tired and bored with life, will have their heads in the clouds, and will hurt you.

Because people are like that, they somehow always end up hurting each other's feelings, whether through carelessness, misunderstanding, or conflicts with themselves.

If you don't love yourself, at least a little, if you don't create an armor of self-love and happiness around your heart, the feeble annoyances caused by others will become lethal and will destroy you.

The first time I saw you I made a pact with myself: "I will avoid loving you until you learn to love yourself."
