Hi All! 2 years ago, I began the process of training in developmental baby massage with the incredibly knowledgeable and experienced Peter Walker .

I was drawn to Peter due to his work and hands on experience working with babies and children who have varying needs and may not be following a typical route of development, especially when it comes to physical abilities.
At the time, I worked in a SEN Nursery with children who had a variety of complex needs. I felt this would hugely benefit the children I work with and support me in gaining greater knowledge to put into practice daily. Supporting children with physical challenges was something I was doing daily and have always put my all into, so why would I not want to skill up on this more. We already massaged, sang, and supported in a nurturing environment that encouraged all individual development, so it was something I knew I would be using daily.

This led to soft baby yoga training, but I will talk about that another time.

As with many wonderful plans, they changed route a little. One year ago, I moved to my new role as a Therapy Support Practitioner. My experience, knowledge, and skills have been perfect for this role too. Now that I am fully settled into the role. I can utilize all of this training and growth by using my free day to start a developmental baby massage class.

I have always been passionate about all things pregnancy, birth, baby, parenthood, developmental progression, nurturing, and empowering those around you. So this could not be more perfect. I have been in contact with an incredible venue that feels right, I will allow them to share. So now putting this out their to gauge interest and build up my tribe. If you are interested to know more, feel free to message me.

Starting in Chilcompton, Somerset.

Isn't it magical taking a step down memory lane?

I am currentlyly applying for an EHCP for this one. Mothering is incredible and exhausting all at once. My fight for the best for these 4 will never end.

Enjoying calm and quiet time snuggling with him today as he is a poorly 4 year old boy.

That feeling of pure love, pride, joy and gratitude I get when I watch them rest.

Just like those moments in the early days when I could watch them for hours. Only now it is not so often I get this chance.

I will always treasure the extra cuddles.

Tunnels are full of opportunities when it comes to play and development.
●They provide a fun way to develop grosse motor skills, coordination and body awareness (their body's position within the environment/space). They can crawl, slither, activate the proprioceptive system.
●They create a safe space for some, an enclosure, a hiding spot, a peek a boo prop.
●Rocking and rolling inside a tunnel can be a fun way to move. This activates the vestibular system.

Being upside down helps Otto regulate his central nervous system, stimulating his vestibular system.

Otto constantly seeks out movement and needs constant stimulation.

Although, at times it can seem frustrating when children are climbing the furniture, jumping on or off things, spinning. It Is actually very clever, Otto's brain now knows how to support his self-regulation. There is a need for this sensation.

This is why I provide many opportunities around our home for the children to be active. So that he can do these things as safely as possible on things that are fit for this purpose. Jumping, running, rolling, dancing, swinging.

Following vestibular activities, we encourage climbing, pulling/pushing his trailer, and lifting. These offer heavy work play (proprioceptive), which helps the brain become reorganised. The body releases both dopamine and serotonin, which together are calming and organising. They decrease the fight or flight response and increase the activity of the parasymthetic nervous system to conserve energy, responsible for resting and digesting.

So excited to start some planning for this new journey which in many ways is less new and more of an extention of a few of my passions and current knowledge.

Firstly a huge thank you to Peter
For sharing your passion, experience, and extensive knowledge with me.

I was drawn to Peter as we both set our hearts on supporting babies and children who may have developmental challenges of varying kinds and need adults around them who can think outside the box, be in the moment, adapt in the moment, and always be putting those individual needs first. As most of you know, I have cerebral palsy, so appreciate this on a personal level too. Always reflecting and progressing.

I attended Baby Massage classes with all of my children, which were lovely. But I want you all to know that this isn't your everyday baby massage session....... It is so much more!

I will tell you more about this soon.

Sometimes the things that seem most simple can benefit us in the most incredible ways...

Otto does this most days, just because.

Hanging helps facilitate spinal decompression and improves spinal health and posture, among many other things. Many of us lack mobility and extension in the therasic and cervical spine. Not helped by our daily positions. For example, sitting in curved over way.

This can be built up, at first you can hang whilst your feet are still on the ground. Taking your weight into your arms and hands just using your feet and legs to balance/support. You can then build up gradually. E.g. Tuck your toes under, lift your feet for a couple of seconds. Listen to your body and exstend the time.

You could try this on those Monkey bars you pass at the park, a pull up bar, rings. Relax your body, don't swing or fidget, be still, be calm, focus and let gravity do it's thing.
