Many parents approach infant massage with the desire to offer relief to their baby, especially during moments of discomfort such as digestive tension, crying, or difficulty settling.

Massage can be one possible element within this search for comfort, but each baby responds differently.

Sometimes touch seems to support relaxation; other times, the baby may show that they are not available in that moment. This too is part of the experience.

Rather than a direct effect, relief may emerge from the quality of the interaction: feeling welcomed, sharing a rhythm, being listened to without pressure.

Over time, this experience may support a sense of mutual trust, without fixed expectations about what should happen.

There are moments when a baby may seem less available for touch, or when the interaction does not find a smooth rhythm.

This can happen for many reasons: tiredness, a different need for comfort, or simply an internal state not oriented toward interaction.

In infant massage, these moments are not seen as “mistakes” or situations to fix, but as part of the baby’s communication.

Sometimes the gesture is welcomed, sometimes not. Both are meaningful.

The relationship does not lose value when massage is not received. On the contrary, it can become an opportunity to better understand the baby’s signals and respect their rhythm.
