It’s such a pleasure and privilege to be able to take my lovely clients out on social calls. Today I had a lovely catch up over some tea and cake with one of my first clients. I absolutely adore this time I have to spend out and about 🥰

I often get asked, what is the difference between dementia and Alzheimer’s.

🧠 Dementia is an umbrella term used to describe a range of conditions that affect memory, thinking, behaviour, and daily life. The type of dementia depends on which areas of the brain are affected, which is why symptoms can look different from person to person.

• Alzheimer’s disease – the most common type. Mainly affects memory, language, and understanding, and usually develops gradually.
• Vascular dementia – caused by reduced blood flow to the brain, often after strokes. Problems with thinking, planning, and judgement are common.
• Frontotemporal dementia – affects the front and sides of the brain. Often shows as personality, behaviour, or language changes rather than memory loss at first.
• Lewy body dementia – linked to abnormal protein deposits in the brain. Can cause hallucinations, movement problems, sleep disturbances, and fluctuating alertness.
• Other dementias – include rarer types linked to conditions such as Parkinson’s disease or alcohol-related brain damage.

🧠 People can be diagnosed with more than one type of dementia.
This is known as mixed dementia and often involves a combination of Alzheimer’s disease and vascular dementia. Because of this, symptoms can overlap and vary from person to person.

Understanding the differences helps people get the right support at the right time 💜

🌟 Calling all Self-Employed PAs & Private Carers for Local Collaboration 🌟

Hi, I’m Emma, a local self employed carer/Personal care assistant (PA).

I’m looking to connect with established, self-employed PAs / private carers in:

📍 Sawley | Long Eaton | Breaston | Risley | Toton | Castle Donington | Sandiacre

I’ve been self-employed for nearly 18 months, and it’s honestly been an amazing experience. I love the freedom, the relationships built with clients, and being able to deliver care properly.

What I’ve found over time is that, like many of us, we often have a mix of longer-term clients alongside shorter-term or changing contracts. This means workload naturally fluctuates — at times we’re at capacity, and at others we have availability. Occasionally this does mean turning work away, which is disappointing for both clients and carers.

The next stage in my journey is to create a small, trusted micro-team of self-employed carers who can support one another, while all remaining fully independent.

The idea is to:
• Support each other with annual leave, sickness and emergencies
• Balance fluctuating workloads
• Share and pass on work where appropriate
• Offer double-ups when clients need extra support
• Professionally recommend and promote one another
• Keep standards high and support each other in practice

For clients, this means:
✔️ Better continuity of care
✔️ Trusted cover instead of unfamiliar faces
✔️ Less disruption when circumstances change
✔️ A more flexible and reliable service

I’m looking to connect with people who are:
✔️ Already established (not looking to train at this stage)
✔️ Self-employed
✔️ Fully insured and up to date with training
✔️ Comfortable managing their own paperwork
✔️ Proud of the care they provide

This isn’t an agency and it’s not an employer/employee setup — just a micro-team of like-minded carers supporting one another and doing things properly.

If you are a self-employed carer and would be interested in having a chat about how we could support one another and our clients, and improve the overall service offering locally, please get in touch 😊

🛏️ Preventing Pressure Ulcers – Know the Signs & Get Help Early 🛏️

Pressure ulcers (sometimes called bed sores) can develop quickly, particularly for people with limited mobility. With the right care and early action, many are preventable.

✅ How to help prevent pressure ulcers:

• Reposition regularly (at least every 2 hours if in bed)
• Encourage gentle movement where possible
• Keep skin clean, dry, and well moisturised
• Use pressure-relieving cushions or mattresses
• Maintain good nutrition and hydration

⚠️ Warning signs to watch for:

• Red or discoloured skin that doesn’t fade
• Skin that feels warm, hard, or spongy
• Pain or tenderness in one area
• Blisters, open areas, or broken skin

Common risk areas include heels, hips, tailbone, elbows, and shoulders.

📞 Who to contact if you’re concerned:

• GP or District Nurse – for assessment and clinical advice
• Community Nursing Team – for wound and pressure care support
• NHS 111 – for urgent guidance if you’re unsure what to do
• 999 – if there are signs of infection, severe pain, or rapid deterioration

💙 Your Bubble is an independent, self-employed home care service, offering personalised support and early identification of concerns — without agency pressure or rushed visits.

If you’re caring for a loved one and would like flexible, one-to-one support at home, feel free to message me for a chat.

When I asked ChatGPT to create a caricature of me and my job… it turned me into a three-armed chef named Sarah! 😂 Don’t worry – while I might not actually be whipping up gourmet meals with extra limbs, I do make sure you and your loved ones get all the support you need with meal prep 🥰

Ever thought about getting a Personal Care Assistant (PCA) but not sure if it’s “for you”? 💭

A PCA isn’t about losing independence — it’s about keeping it.

✨ Support that fits your life
From personal care and daily routines to companionship and a helping hand around the house, a PCA works around you, not the other way round.

🏡 Stay at home, stay comfortable
There’s no place like home. A PCA helps you continue living safely and confidently in familiar surroundings.

💙 One familiar face
Unlike rotating carers, a personal care assistant means consistency, trust, and a genuine relationship — someone who really gets to know you.

⏰ Planned, reliable support
Support is offered at agreed times that work for both of us — giving you dependable care without feeling rushed or overstretched.

👨‍👩‍👧 Peace of mind for families
Knowing your loved one is supported with dignity and respect makes all the difference.

Sometimes a little support opens the door to a lot more freedom.
If you’ve been considering it, this could be your sign ✨

🌟 Triggers of stress in Dementia: What to Watch For

Caring for someone with dementia can be overwhelming for both the individual living with dementia and for their families and carers. Recognising stress triggers helps everyone respond with patience and compassion.

For your loved one: 🧠
Confusion & memory gaps
Loss of independence
Changes in routine or environment
Overstimulation & noise
Pain, illness, or discomfort
Feeling isolated or misunderstood

For caregivers: 💛
Balancing care with life responsibilities
Behavioral challenges & repetitive questions
Lack of support or feeling alone
Guilt or self-blame
Worry about the future
💛 Awareness is the first step. Respond with empathy, take breaks, and remember—you’re not alone.

When caregivers understand the triggers, they respond with more patience and support which brings calm for both sides 💜
