Dear Friends and Clients:- I am officially putting out this post to say that I have closed my private practice temporarily as I am not able to work therapeutically.

Unfortunately on 10 March 2025 I was diagnosed with colorectal cancer.

My plan for treatment is radiotherapy, followed by surgery but as yet I have no dates.

I am very well and keeping active by going to the gym, walking and gardening. If you see me walking the dogs, please do chat. The poor dogs have done a lot of miles lately.

I send all my contacts my warm wishes, and it is my strongest hope and desire that I return to my beloved therapy work later this year.

Loss is my companion this month. You know it's been a long time when you have to use a calculator to work out how many years. I lost my mum in February 1998. She's really present at the moment; my mind and memories taking me back to her diagnosis, cancer treatment and death. Or maybe I have created a connection to her that is imaginary because we have missed so many years together.

I chose to share this personal post; there is no cure for grief but, as a specialist counsellor, I can walk alongside you and help you navigate your loss, whether recent or a long time ago. You will go forward but how?

Loss also applies to people you don't see, broken relationships, loss of pets and represents changes and endings.

I'm here if you need support. I am thinking of everyone who faces loss too.💔

I went away for three days to attend training with Masha from www.sandsoundcentre.co.uk to learn the skills of facilitating a group. The photo is of our collective sand tray at the end of the course.

My future may include offering therapeutic groups or co-facilitating groups and I am excited to expand my skill set. I learnt so much during my course and will also be able to apply my learning to one to one sessions.

I will be supporting Hunts Community Cancer Network with their first drop-in for Sawtry on Monday, 3 March 2025 - 10-1pm in the Old School Hall. See their page for details.

New Year - another diet? Body size reduction, goals to be thinner, poor self-esteem or you felt unhealthy in 2024?

Did you know nutrition and diet is linked directly to your mental health?

I have just read Vanessa Feltz's autobiography Vanessa Bares All - a theme in her book is her weight. Never being thin enough and being judged, particularly by her parents regarding her appearance, despite her career success.

Is size something you can relate to? Have you been scooped up by the diet culture?

2025 is your year of wellness over weight. Embracing your body and untangling your worth from appearance only.

What's your way to look after your wellbeing, apart from less food or food denial? Maybe you have a gym membership, attend yoga or pilates, or wild swim?

Love your body - it's a remarkable thing - and health is much more important than a thigh gap! Attending to healthy living is important and so is avoiding stress that can be caused by diets.

If you would like to talk in confidence about your relationship to your body, this is something that can take place in the safety of counselling. Not looking after yourself? Something else to bring to therapy.
