What is Myofascial Cupping Therapy? Last year I did some training on how and when to use suction cups to help stimulate change in the tissues to aid function. So far results with clients using this tool has been positive. Below gives some information about the benefits and effects of myofascial cupping, it is generally used along with other massage techniques during a treatment.
Using polycarbonate plastic cups, a vacuum is created to lift the tissue
Encourages blood to tight and restrictive connective tissue which can aid muscle relaxation
Creates mechanical change within the tissues creating
improved glide and function
Helps activate the immune system to reduce inflammation
Stimulates neurological responses in the tissues which can contribute to reduction in pain
Cups can be static whilst you do an active movement or resist against a pressure or can be moved over affected area combining massage and cupping together to achieve myofascial release.
Can be used on most areas especially on symptoms associated with:
Frozen Shoulder, Elbow Problems, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
Knee Problems, IT Band Restrictions, Plantar Fascitis Lower Back Pain, Neck and Shoulder Tension, Stress Relief

Last year I completed a certificate in Myofascial Therapy. I loved learning about this interesting tissue and working with it to help clients to improve function, movement and balance to their bodies.

Myofascial Therapy uses techniques to help engage with the fascia (connective tissue) in our bodies. The fascia provides a gliding surface for other structures, including muscles and joint structures allowing smooth movement and function. If there is any dysfunction in the fascia, it can thicken causing restriction and limiting function of other structures such as muscles.

A whole body approach is used to correct imbalances in the body which aims to balance upper and lower body to address postural and functional issues.

Usually a full body assessment is carried out and a range of direct and indirect myofascial techniques are used to help regain alignment and function to the body. Techniques use a lighter touch to engage with the tissue, to limit tissue resistance and encourage the tissue to change. Trigger points and stretching techniques are also used.

Myofascial Therapy can be done as a stand alone treatment and is beneficial to help correct postural issues and alleviate symptoms of persistent or chronic pain. Specific techniques can be used to help with jaw problems, TMJ disorders (Temporal Mandible Joint).
